Would you rather hear the truth, even if it hurts, or would you rather hear a lie?

I'm getting more and more fed up with the things I'm seeing and reading these days.  It's like we're this so-called "edgy" society, where no subject is off-limits, where our lives are "open books," where young girls (and I'm quoting here) have told me, "I know I'm a b****, but that's just who I am and I'm' not going to change it."  But, when it comes to REAL LIFE subjects, things like health, overweight, obesity, childhood obesity, and diseases stemming from our live-fast, eat-fast, TV-watching, sedentary lifestyle, not enough people are calling a spade a spade.

Wake up, people!  There is no easy fix!  You are not completely screwed because of genetics, you need to get up off the couch, despite your four kids and your full-time job and your crazy schedule, and get outside to be active!  You need to invest the money in healthier foods, you need to figure out what you may be doing wrong when it comes to getting healthy.  I'm not saying everyone's going to be 5'5" and 130 pounds...I'm just saying that everyone needs to take control of their health, and regardless of what you weight, you need to get moving and eat healthier.  My gosh, enough is enough!

The thing that kills me is that I'm probably going to hear comments saying, "what do you care?", "don't judge me", "stop being hateful."  But I DO CARE, I'm not JUDGING, but I am LOVING you, and I'm LOVING our society enough to say, "wait a minute...our whole mentality has got to change!"  Is it hard?  Might it hurt?  Absolutely!  No one wants to hear that they're doing something wrong.  No one likes change.  Everyone wants an easy solution, but...there's not one.  We have got to take personal responsibility and understand that just because someone says, "our society is getting out of control when it comes to our level of obesity and our health" that's not being hateful, that's being loving.  Someone has got to get the ball rolling...

I feel your pain. A few years ago I saw a girl in her mid teens (on Oprah, of all things) speaking of how she's a size 26 and proud of it. She was applauded. I admire her healthy self-esteem, however I found her statement to be incredulous. She's proud of the damage she's doing to her heart, joints, liver, kidneys, arteries, endocrine system, and so on? There is a fine line between being happy with who you are and accepting self-destructive behaviors. If she loves herself, she should stop hurting herself.

I agree with you on this one. Health is the most important thing we have to worry about. Food for comfort is one of the greatest contributor. Hopefully people will understand that we all want a healthy nation.
