Cost Cutting: $30 a Week Grocery Budget

Many of us are working hard at cutting costs to pay for the rising cost of gas and the economy in general.  For me, a single mom with three boys- I find it worth while to cut my coupons and look for those ultimate deals to keep my grocery bill down.  My shopping spree today landed me with a total grocery bill of $28.79...now that's nothing to sneeze at!

What in the world did I buy?  Check it out!

Purex Laundry Detergent
2 Boxes of Suddenly Salad
Shredded Cheese
2 Banquet Frozen Dinners
2 Totinos Pizzas
1/2 Gallon Milk
6 oranges
2 Stayfree Pads
2 Betty Crocker Brownie Mix
2 MInute Lemonades
2 BBQ sauces
2 packages of chicken thighs-boneless
2 cans of Beans
1 can of Manwich
1 can of Chef Boyardee

I really encourage all those doubters out there to give it a shot.  Another site I enjoy is Freecycle.org--before I go buy anything, I see if someone else has it first and has intended to give it away or trash it. Also, this is a good way to keep my home clean and uncluttered as well and at the same time help someone else who is in need.

I am the proud recipient of the following items this year alone:

Soccer cleats for son
7.5 foot x-mas tree
3x4 Wall Mirror
Microwave Stand
Superhero toys
Curtains that keep the heat out and the cool in
2 book shelves

Come on guys, share your most outstanding saving tips/ideas that you have used yourself.  Happy sharing!

Dragon_lady_jade thank you for the information, however, I do not need foodstamps and I certainly do not qualify--I make too much money, and that was when I last checked 5 years ago. I definitely make more money now. I was sharing my tips on saving on groceries to show others that you can buy food and not spend a ton of money per week to do so. Naturally I cut coupons, I said so in my initial blog above- I compare them to everyday savings and I use the grocerygame.com website to assist me in my purchases. Freecycle is another website that helps keep our landfills empty, by offering/asking for items that others are needing, not using or looking to get rid of. It is imperative that we all take the initiative to do more to cut costs so that we my all survive during the poor economy we are in right now. The only help I truly needs are those extra tips in saving in other parts of my life, you know: auto, health, clothing, etc. Another persons tip/idea can always help the next person.

Being a college student, I know how to budget. My problem is trying to be healthy about it.
