Fire ball 4th of July cake----wax icing!!!!

My grandfather's birthday was the 4th of July.  Our family would all get together for a huge cook out, and ther would be fireworks----legal?  I doubt they were, but that didnot stop my Granpa from his birthday celebration!!!  When I was little, before I learned the history of the 4th of July I thouhgt all the fireworks were to celebrate Grandpa's birthday!!!  There were 21 cousins that would be there to celebrate the birthday.  We had a great time, watermelon seed spitting contests, hula hoop contests and sometimes we had a talent show.  When Grandpa turned 65 we thought the cake needed 65 candles, Grandma said ok, so candles covered the entire cake.  When we lit them, half were almost melted by the time we got the last candles lit.  When Grandpa blew them out, wax flew all across the top of the cake.  Grandpa said,"well this cake will sure stick to your ribs, if you can get it off your teeth !"  It was the last time we covered a cake with candles---and wax icing is not recomended, do not try it at home kids!!  Grandpa is gone now but I never celibrate the 4th without  fond memories of when I thought it was all for my Grandpa!!
