Friends? What does that mean?

Why is it that in todays world, it is next to impossible to find a true friend. Not a friend of convenience, or one that you are constantly having to check your back for? I'm talking about one that you go eat lunch with, pick up the phone and call to just see how there day is going (not to ask a favor of), to say you are thinking of them. I really would love to find couples or even singles that their idea of a good time, doesn't have to involve bar hopping, drinking till you puke, or those that think "no kids allowed". Shoot, get together as families and throw some horseshoes, eat some BBQ, and sure drink a few brews. That is what I call a good time. OK so my old acquaintances think I have become an old fart. So not that, just maybe I have grown up and they are actually still kids. At least that is the way that I see it. Let me know how you feel and if you are looking for a real friend maybe we can chat.

IT IS REALLY HARD TO FIND SOMEBODY LIKE YOU AND BE SURE THAT THE MAJORITY DON'T KNOW WHO IS THE FRIEND.

I know how you feel...it's hard to find a true friend these days. I think part of it is because people are scared of showing who they really are for fear of getting hurt, and they just tend to be an ocasional friend and they don't show too much of them. I know that feeling because there have been times in my life when I DID opened up I was taken advantage of. So, I have learned not show too much of me. The are very insensitive people out there who don't care about other people's feelings, you know.

I feel that way about letting myself show. I was always the gullable one that got my feelings hurt so easy. But ya know I have never expected anymore out of a friend that I wasn't willing to do.

Meloni, I completely understand where you are coming from. Me and my husband moved from our hometown two years ago (where all our friends live) and have not been able to find any true friends since we have been here. Now don't get me wrong, we have met a lot of great people that we hang out with occasionally but like you said, most just want to drink etc. That just isn't something that you can do very often especially when you have children. I think one of the main reasons that we have such a hard time is because of our age (I'm 27, husband is 26), because most people our age are single and still living the party scene and we are not.

    So where do you live?
