GOING GREEN- NOT ALWAYS EASY-BUT I'M TRYING!

I'm trying to get my family to go green and it hasn't always been easy. I quit buying paper/styrofoam plates and cups long ago. If that means i have dishes up to the ceiling constantly that I must wash, then so be it! My hubby and his buddy sometimes forget, however, and I have to keep on them about the evil of paper plates.

I also quit buying napkins. If that means my 6 year old has to run in to  the kitchen and grab a dish towel out of the bottom drawer to wipe his snotty nose or ketchup covered mouth, than so be it. (As long as I catch him before he tosses the used dish rag on the floor or tries to put it back in the drawer, I don't mind.)

I have a ton of plastic cool whip containers and plastic butter dishes coming out of every cabneit, that I keep insisiting on resusing. Some actually do get reused. Others just fall out on me  everytime I open a cabneit door.

Luckily, my child's school started recycling plastic on Tuesdays. So I send my kindergartner on the bus with a bag of plastic on Tuesdays.

Our neighbor collects our aluminum cans. He keeps our yard cut for us, and we let him have all our aluminum. We take our cans and put them in a giant plastic tote we keep between our houses, and he takes them when he's ready. It's a win-win situation for us.

I bought a reusable shopping bag, but haven't been out ot use it. Don't see too many people around here using them. And I would like to get some of those light bulbs that last forever. Need to try those out.

I also cleaned my whole kitchen, including my nasty microwave, with vinegar. Worked pretty good, although i am looking into using Shaklee cleaning products.

I keep trying to go green! Save the Earth!

"I believe in unabashed confidence, the self-assurance to just go with it and be prepared to make mistakes. This house is a melting pot of who I am, my eclectic madcap sense. I want people to walk in and think, 'This is a fun place that's not taking itself too seriously.' Sometimes I get it right, sometimes not—that's the joy of playing with clothes and interiors. When my style is too disciplined, that's when I get it wrong.” —designer Matthew Williamson, Domino magazine
