Is it wrong that I want this? Vintage yellow bunk bed

Remodelista posted this just plain amazing yellow bed/desk/cubby number on Friday and I only saw it now. It is simply so many layers of wonderfulness (not a word, I know, but I am overcome). It took me straight back—yes, this is one of those completely self-indulgent and pointless posts we bloggers are noted for—to the waiting area of the Sears Portrait Studio in Oklahoma City where I used to have my annual portraits made as a child. This waiting area contained a similarly shaped cartoon-viewing cubby, which seemed like maybe the most awesome thing in the world at that time. I can't explain why watching old Merrie Melodies cartoons in that photo booth-shaped nook was so much more fun than watching them on TV at home, but it was. Anyway, on a practical note, isn't this sucker well-designed? Bed on top, ladder integrated into the desk, full-on work station inside with a chalkboard wall on the outside, and I think there's even a little closet in the back. This one's vintage, but Remodelista suggests that you could have a carpenter custom make one if you are as in love with it as I am. Did I already mention my admiration for Remodelista. Oh yes. I did.
Anyone else have a vivid childhood furniture memory (or something similar)?

Report AbuseWhen our daughters were younger, my husband made them a gigantic book/toy shelf with a pegboard back, with hooks, perfect for hanging their favorite dress-up outfits, hats, etc. It even worked as a mini room divider when placed at a right angle to the wall. Fun times!

Report AbuseYES, I would like to order two. One for my little boy and one for me for when I want to feel 12 all over again.
I would ask that you make mine in the "paint spray" color style.

Report AbuseI remember that photo booth with the cartoon cubby, OMG! My dad was Mr. Carpenter when my sister an I were young. He made us both platform beds and a toybox and a desk/bookshelf thing that later turned into a microwave stand, (when they first came out). What great memories, love this bed.
