One Night Stand: Design ideas from The Anemi Hotel

Situated on the beautiful yet barren Island of Folegandoes, an untouched part of Greece, the Anemi Hotel masterfully combines luxurious, modern minimalism with traditional Cycladic architecture.

The hotel's decor, by designer Stavros Papayiannis, was inspired by simplicity, luxury and elegance. The combination of gray and white creates a soothing and cool interior...and happens to be one of my favorite color pairings.

Recreate this room at home with a simple yet effective trick–painting the floor. When floors, walls, and ceilings are all the same color, borders disappear and objects seem to float in the space.

A great way to add a pop of color to a neutral space is to make a headboard from a blown up photograph mounted on Foamcor or other substrates.

A streamlined yet eye-popping colorful chair is the perfect addition to a small room. Used as a dining, desk and side chair, the four Eames side chairs shown here carry a consistent theme throughout the space.

No, I'm not turning into a Buddhist monk, giving away everything except the shirt on mine and my kids' backs. I've just come to my senses. If I own a lot less, life will become simpler. -Blond & Blithe
