Want to get your posts featured on Shine: At Home?
We love hearing from all of the readers here at Shine, and if you're not already putting up posts of your own,
click over here and give it a shot!
If you
are blogging and want to see your posts featured in Editor's Picks or the top stories module, here are a few tips for making that more likely:
I feature user posts that:
- Have great photos (but not copyrighted ones—like photos from magazines)
- Tell not just about a new product the author loves, but why she loves it or how she would use it and make it her own
- Share the invaluable wisdom of your experience with decorating, gardening, organizing, cleaning, d.i.y. projects, entertaining, furniture hacks, and saving money and energy in your home
- Don't go crazy with lots of wacky fonts and capital letters
I don't pick user posts that:
- Are advertisements or spam
- Feature copyright-protected photos
- Belong in a different channel (like Love & Sex or Parenting)
Check out some of my favorite user posts for inspiration here:
Want to let me know if you've posted something feature-worthy that I might have missed? Email me
here.
I can't wait to see what all of you have to say.

I'm interested in stories about saving money on cleaning products, groceries and so on.
I don't buy many products in order to save money and the environment. Soap and water clean most surfaces, with vinegar and ammonia helping at times. Most products for cleaning are bad for your lungs anyway. I don't bleach hardly at all. I like bar soap instead of shower gel.
I would like to see some stories on saving money by eating at home, bringing your lunch and so on.

I love to have a clean smelling home, and I think everyone's home should smell to there liking .. Mine seems to be coffee. I have found some inexpensive smelling coffee candles that don't smoke, but lightly scent my home. I also love to use just plain ole pinesol, to mop with. It leaves a lasting fragrance in my home. Airing it out also helps. To mention washing curtains, rugs, and washing the base boards. I am looking for some really nice cheap dinner recipes, for my family, to try.. We don't eat out much because I love to cook.. if you have some please share.. Also the way you love your home to smell .. what is your favorite fragrance???

Pinesol is nice for the garbage disposal system too and helps get rid of chiggers, should you be so unfortunate to attract them. Just put a few drops in your bath water. My mom used it regular on us kids after berry picking sessions.

Valerie, I love the items you showcase and those you post personally. I read your pointers with interest. . I notice that your image is a royalty free Getty Image, with credits, and that many of your images are professional product images as opposed to personal images. Must all of our images be our personal shots or might we also use images of fellow crafters, artisans, with their permission, if we print them with credits? If that is acceptable, what would SHINE preferences for credit format be?
By nature, those who work in the design/artist/arts&crafts field generally embrace the concept of D.I.Y. with enthusiasm, even if it is outside our own genre, and love to share -eager to exchange ideas & feed on one another inspirationally. What one might see in eco-product, another might render in a painting or scrapbook design and so it goes. This exchange is crucial to the design process. We must be exposed to ideas - all sorts of ideas - again, we feast upon them.
However, even as we share, we are aware of the absolute necessity to "market" the product or brand our name. It is that marketing justification, after all, which enables us to indulge our voracious appetite as artists/craftsman/designers in constantly sharing and seeking. Might you offer those of us, who fall between the cracks of staff reps, bloggers for pay, freelance content contributors and personal bloggers, guidelines so that our blogging/sharing might be best received by SHINE?
Thank you kindly,
Devonia
