Sometimes writing stuff down helps you feel better. Plus, you know your diary's not going to run and tell everyone your secrets, and a few years later, you can read it and say, "Wow, my life really sucked, but I got through it."

btw: The plural form of "diary" is spelled "diaries."

Ok lil mama sometime you just need to clear your head and a friend is not always the best option. A diary helps you figure things out before you really have to or it could possible help you keep your daily task and emotions in line it gives you a chance to look inside yourself and express how you feel without actually voicing it for some it's just simply a way out.but for others it may be a way to live out a fantacy or dream. and they are not always used to keep secerts.

    Hi Lil mama,

As a writer who started out writing in my diary during my pre-teen years, I can truly say that I started writing because I felt passionate about it. I never really thought about it I just did it because it gave me a lot of pleasure. I felt good whenever I wrote. I absolutely loved writing about the events of my day. I never even noticed the therapeutic part about writing. I just did it because I loved it - Plain and simple.

Then low and behold I became a writer.

As far as the diary not talking back to you goes, writing in your diary is not about wanting an answer, it's about writing the truth as you see it. Telling your friends your true feelings isn't always an option.

Writing in a diary is about you, the paper and your pen and the truth.

A person who writes in their diary just wants a place of their own where there are no friends, no family members and no outsiders. Just you, your pen and paper and the truth - what could be better?

I hope that helped answer your question Lil mama.

    ~wink~
