I'm a first time reader to the Shine Blog and very disappointed
with its content. You advertise the site as a place for women
to raise their voices. Unfortunately, your site contains no
posts on the serious issues of today - the economy, health care,
employment/unemployment and the current banking/financial
crisis. Are you suggesting that women have no interest in
these matters?
I'd like to believe that women are as interested in and
informed on today's issues as they are with current fashion
trends or how to fight the common cold. When we fail to speak
out on key issues, our needs and concerns are ignored. We
will continue to be paid less than men while performing the same
job. Our insurance will not cover important procedures or
treatments while men's insurance covers their Viagra
prescriptions. We will continue to pay higher rates for our
health insurance coverage. And matters involving the health
and well-being of our children will take a back seat to the
financial support of large corporations.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not all doom and gloom. I
read my horoscope everyday, am an avid fan of Oprah and General
Hospital, and love to spend the day gardening or shopping.
But I also take the time to follow current events, monitor the
machinations of my local and national political leaders, and
educate myself on the important business, medical and political
topics of the day.
I hope the editors of Shine will add news and current events to
their areas of discussion. Women need to speak up and speak
out!
