1) Have a No Spend day. Does that mean you won't spend a single dime--of course not (or highly unlikely). But by labeling your day No Spend or Spend Less, you'll tend to watch yourself--and your wallet.

2) Change your mind. Just before you're going to make a purchase, put it back (or empty your "shopping cart"). Invite a friend to have a drink at your house instead of going out. Notice that small acts of restraint feel good, without sliding into deprivation.
3) Write down a few sources of spending temptation--a certain catalog, a store, a friend, an email about sample sales--and weed them out of your life. Toss the catalogs, walk or drive past the store (or take a different route), avoid the spendy friend, unsubscribe to any and all email updates on sale products. (I just had to do this with Boden and L.L. Bean).
