A Modern Day Dragon Slaying

Once Upon A Time....

there lived a wicked Dragon Queen...obsessed with power and craving adoration no matter what it took or to whom she had to ravage to get it.  Her kingdom was doomed.  She had reined in incompetence, manipulation, and deceit for years and now the Gods were demanding her throne.  This day had dawned due to the combined efforts of all the maidens determined to bring to light her dark and evil agenda.  The maidens had watched a once bright and happy kingdom, abundant in nourishment for all who resided there, slowly become oppressive and deadly to any who ventured too close to the powers of the wicked Queen.  So on this day, the decision had been made...the Dragon Queen was dismissed by a public and humiliating mandate.  The throne was to be given to another, and the wicked Dragon Queen was to be banished to lands too far away for her to be a threat to anyone in the kingdom ever again.  The Dragon Queen was powerless, at long last!!

The maidens were promoted to postions of authority and given high praise by the Gods.  It was to be a new day of restoration and recovery for the kingdom.  Everyone celebrated and music filled the land!

Oh, fear not. The wicked Dragon Queen will move on. She will move to a new land unfamiliar with all her maniplulative and toxic spells, that she will cast immediately upon arrival.  Her manipulative grab for power will begin anew. The spell gives her 6 months before one by one, people begin to realize she is deceitful and lacking in authenticity. She'll spend the next 6 months creating confusion and pretending to be wounded by all the doubters around her. She'll have reasons and excuses for everything she's not able to confront honestly. Finally, when she's in a corner, she'll cry foul…she'll shed fake tears and beg for understanding and prayer. She'll pretend to seek out spiritual guidance …as she fights back against anyone who attempts to reveal her true self. (The Queen has used this strategy without fail for 40 years!!!).  The Queen will ruin the lives of all those who naively believed the trickery she used to climb her way to social acceptance.  And if no one challenges her successfully, another kingdom will be in ruins because of the evil control of the Dragon Queen.

Okay, enough with the fairy tale stuff.  This wasn't a fairy tale.  It was real, but you can see it would have made an excellent story line for a modern day tale of dragons and slayers.  There were, however, real maidens who fought to rid the kingdom of this dragon. Today we call the kingdoms businesses and the people at the top who manage them CEOs.  A good CEO fosters growth, both in the profit margin of the company and personally in the lives of the people they lead.  A bad CEO can destroy both business and lives. In this story there were women forever affected by this manipulative and deceitful CEO.  But this is a happy ending.  This isn't about what damage one greedy and dysfunctional person can cause in one company.  This is about what happens when those who are determined NOT to let the wicked win FIGHT BACK.

To the women who battled to free the community of the strangle-hold one woman had on truth and reality....BRAVO!!!  These women, women I fought along side with until I was removed from the battle ground, were any thing but weak or deserving of all that was heaped on them.  These women were heroic in their determination to take back truth.  They didn’t stoop to being ugly and vengeful...they were simply persistent and determined in shining a light on the cancer that was a bad CEO and then let the community make the healing cut. Lesser women wouldn't have been able to take the constant passive-aggressive attacks and emotional warfare dished out by the DRAGON.  Lesser women would have moved on, deciding she wasn't worth the toll on their self-esteem and mental health. But these women banded together and little by little forced people to see the truth right in front of them…a textbook example of a narcissistic DRAGON QUEEN

What was left after the final battle was swiftly razed by the Board of Directors immediately following the decision to give the company to someone else.  Of monumental importance was the fact it no longer belonged to the DRAGON QUEEN!  SHE HAD LOST!  They could hold their heads high and take comfort in the fact that while they had lost many of the battles....THEY HAD WON THE WAR!.  Valuable people had been lost along the way...betrayed by the DRAGON and cast aside like refuse, but those cast aside carried on the fight by supporting, from the sidelines, the warriors still at war. Yes, we all need counseling and we'll probably need medication for post traumatic stress disorder for the rest of their lives….BUT THE DRAGON HAD BEEN DEFEATED!!!

These are the kind of women I gravitate toward; sheros. Warriors fighting with everything good in women; loyality, honesty, devotion, love against everything ugly in women; pride, vanity, envy, laziness, and manipulation. The Dragon Queen has created her identity based on manipulation, deceit, and denial and she fails, even now, to understand she can never win against sincerity, honesty, and loyalty.  There comes a time in everyone’s life when they have to decide what is more important…doing what is fair or doing what is right. It’s my belief if everyone focused on doing only what is right…there would never be a need to argue about what is fair.

So, the war is won...church bells ring in celebration. Some of these maidens will not stay in this kingdom, as there are other Dragons to be removed from promising kingdoms. It may be they are needed in far flung places to teach others the importance of being authentic and honest in how you conduct yourself.  It may be there are countless places praying for someone to come along and show them what wonders are to be when you live by the belief that the world needs people who do what is right over what is fair.  Dragons beware!  You're days are numbered.  Long live maidens willing to slay dragons!!!
