And so you think "crack" is addictive....PLEASE.
user
These days it seems like almost every talkshow on t.v. is either
about screwing your best friends boyfriend or you're addicted
to crack. Well the screwing your best friends boyfriend will always
be a topic but I am so sick and tired of these people who cry
addiction to crack or cocaine. When are people going to realize
that you don't become physically addicted to crack. It's
all in your head. These people don't have a clue about
addiction unless of course they have been addicted to
heroin, loratabs, oxycodone, methadone or alcohol. These drugs creep
into your muscles, joints and alcohol of course into your liver and
brain and after just a few times of use the body craves and cries
out for these substances. You smoke crack and the next day
you're fine,no withdrawals,no pain,no side effects. I've
talked to people that have smoked crack that have told me that they
could do with it or without it but never have I talked to someone
addicted to the other afore mentioned drugs that could say the
same. Withdrawal from crack...waking up disgusted with yourself for
spending all of your money and having nothing to show for it.
Withdrawal from the other afore mentioned drugs...uncontrollable
and unbearable cramping in the muscles and
joints, vomiting, diarhea, sensitivity to light, inability to eat or
drink anything oh and no sleeping. You see these drugs take away
your bodies natural pain fighting defenses. These are called
endorphyns. Endorphyns are the spongy cells that keep your bones
from rubbing together. Without endorphyns in your body it's
like your bones rubbing against each other and then colliding with
your muscle tissue wearing it down to a thin wall of nothing. When
you don't have the drugs in your body to fight the pain and no
natural defenses either, imagine the pain. Or can you? There is
absolutely no comparison to the two at all. Many times
these people so called "addicted" to crack take up
beds in rehabs that should be used for people who are really
addicted to "real" drugs. It takes about 4 weeks after
stopping the use of the drugs for your body to restore the natural
endorphyns and then another 3 to 6 weeks to get your body back up
to full potential. afterwards it is a daily struggle, unlike the
simple no to crack. Alot of you will say that I'm talking
out of my a** and that I haven;t got a clue but you are wrong. My
life has not gone untouched by drug addiction. My older brother was
and as far as I know is still addicted to anything he can get
his hands on. I tried and tried to help him to overcome these
addictions but to no avail. I went on to study these
"addictive" drugs so that I might one day find a way to
save him from himself but I finally gave in to the wise words of my
mother that you cannot help someone that doesn't want to be
helped. I did find out though that the drug cocaine/crack is a
mind drug not a body drug therefore the addiction you seem to think
you have is only in your mind and if you control your thoughts and
occupy your mind with more constructive ideas other than trying to
smoke your brains out then you can overcome the craving of a mind
drug such as crack cocaine. It is true though if you give in
to these mind cravings long enough you can indeed screw your brain
cells up but why do that when the craving is so easily
controlled? Those of you with addictions to the other drugs
I've mentioned I implore you to please seek professional help
to make yourself well again. Just remember the good old days when
your body was healthy and pain-free. It's a struggle but
it's worth it. So all you so called "crack addicts"
get over yourself and find something else to blame your useless
life on. I'm sure you can think up something better. Now
I've said my piece and given my opinion and of course everybody
knows what they say about opinions.

Marijo, is crystal meth on your list of addictive substances? and if you don't think that crack/cocaine is addictive, why do people keep using until they lose everthing like that old commercial where the person snorts up their car, their home, their money etc...? I work with many addicts and find your article quite interesting, a fresh take on this subject if anything else.

I am a crack addict in recovery. Addiction to whatever your chose of drugs or gambling or sex. It is difficult to quit. I understand the differences but that don't make it easy. Look at all the cig smokers.
I've seen people stop herion, crack, liquor yet can not give up the cig.
you view is appreciated, but no matter what aslong as you worked to stay straight.

By all means, reciprocityrules, crystal meth is an addictive drug. Sorry to have left that one out. It's just that most of the addictions I've had to deal with in people as far as drugs are concerned had been with the other drugs I had mentioned and not crystal. Guess it's because of where I grew up. Once again I apologize. In response to your inquirey about people snorting up their cars, homes, money, etc. It has been my expierence with such people that have indeed done this of their own free will without the aid of their bodies screaming out in pain because of the lost endorphins(natural pain killers) but instead with the pleasure seekers located in the brain. The drug crack/cocaine stimulates pleasure and happy feelings while the other afore mentioned drugs releive pain by recreating the bodys' natural defenses of course that have been destroyed by the use of said drugs. Don't get me wrong these actions are also willingly taken by the addicted person. No drugs are good drugs. That's not the point I am trying to get across, that some drugs are better than others, but that crack/cocaine is merely more of a drug of choice in that it is much easier kicked. I too have worked with many addicts,of every sort and these are just my personal findings and interpretations. Thank-you for responding.

I apologize lilmama for my misspelling of endorphins. I was typing along and completely forgot to check for spelling. I thought that my message was more important. My bad! As you have seen though I stand corrected in that I spelled it correctly this time! Thank-you for responding

CONGRATULATIONS on your sobriety Geneva and I say this with all of my heart. Feels good huh?! I am so very happy for you. I hope that now that you have overcome this you are trying to be an example,a shining one at that, for all the rest of our brothers and sisters out there that are still struggling with their addictions. Once again a big hug and a high five to you!! In response to the other part of your comment you are very right in saying that some people have kicked many things and yet they can't put those darn cigarettes down. I myself struggle with the good old smokes and it ain't easy! Maybe one day. Stay strong my friend,I hope yuo don't mind me calling you friend, and as you said,"It's all about staying clean and not about what you are kicking". Thank-you for your response and good luck!
