Are there any April fools in your office?

Today is definitely not the day to leave your computer on at the office and walk away for an extended length of time. In so many workplaces this year, there is little to laugh about. Layoffs, dwindling 401(k)s, and still-uncertain outlooks make work a very seriously place indeed lately. So I'm wondering: Since we all need a good laugh, are there more pranks happening at work this year on the first day of April than in past years? Any jello-ed staplers? Crazy computer hi jinx?

As Fast Company reports, many companies have embraced April Fools' pranks as as attention-grabbing marketing moves. Burger King's left-handed whopper, for example. And remember when Taco Bell said they had purchased the Liberty Bell so it would be called the Taco Liberty Bell? Ah, the '90s. Last year, the big prank was YouTube's "rickrolling" that led lots of web surfers from all points to Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" video.

So, what's happening this year? Is it quiet on the prank front, or is the need for some lighthearted levity at the office inspiring the jokesters all around you? What's the best April Fools' joke you've ever seen at work? The worst?

My prank lasted longer than just April Fools Day. A guy I used to work with had a stuffed monkey on his desk that made noise when you shook it. One night, after everyone had left, I kidnapped the monkey and had my beau write an elaborate ransom note and I left it on his desk. Everyday, I would sneak in a new ransom note and leave it on his desk. I even took a pic of the monkey with a blindfold on and a lighter lit next to it's arm, threatening to set him on fire. Eventually, it was returned unharmed. I can't even remember what we asked for in the ransom note. But, it was funny as heck!!
