Auctions and the over bidder
This is my first blog! I love auctions! I started going about 10
years ago. Today we went to a local auction
house and the place was packed! In
my 10 years of attending auctions I have observed and
learned much. But today I had to leave early but
not before I witnessed the craziest bidding war
ever.<br><br>I saw a 42" Bravia flat screen
tv. I told my husband it may go for
about $400- $500. My reason for this estimate is
<strong>first this is an
auction</strong>, <strong>2nd this is not a
brand new tv> T</strong>hough it did have
the original box and remote and paperwork (a real plus) if
you purchase electronics at an auction. So the bidding
starts at $200, then $250, $300, $350, $400, $500, $550, $600, and
I am thinking OKAY enough already, you can buy a brand new
one for this price. BUT they are still
bidding!!! $650, $700, $750, then $800!!! I look
to my husband and he just laughs, I look behind him to
another guy who's mouth was hanging open, (
for real, his jaw almost hit the
floor). We smiled at each other in disbalief. Just
ss I wanted to yell - Stop the Madness!,
the bidding ended at $800! OMG! The poor fellow
who won the TV looked very pale as he raised his bidder number to
confirm. The auction house was quiet.
<strong><em>Now, don't forget to add the sales
tax plus the 10% buyers</em> premium</strong> when you
check out. After that I was ready to go, when the house
is packed you really can't get the best deals, someone
always keeps it going higher than you want to pay. You just have to
learn to let it
go! <br> <br> As
we entered our car to leave I caught a glimpse of
an HH Gregg mailer on the front seat, it adverstised a 42"
flat screen for $599! and a 50" flat screen for
$899!
