So many times I’ve sat in training rooms with other private investigators; I hear their war stories of how they work their cases. Some of these P.I.s are retired… Police Officers, CIA Agents, FBI Agents, Correctional Officers and coming from other professions before obtaining their private investigation license.
I take relationships, friendships and marriages very seriously. I am a romantic at heart and know that all these things in our life today, tomorrow and yesterday are very sensitive issues at hand especially infidelity. The ethics of an investigator are very important, because who am I to tell my client that just because their husband or wife cheated they must get a divorce? Some investigators try to take over and take control of their client’s life. Some of these clients have other issues at hand that are none of the private investigators business and only the client knows if they are ready to forgive and forget or handle that divorce they may be contemplating. Based on the facts we as private investigators provide to our clients, this investigation surveillance, video tape and report is the tool that our clients have left to decide what they want to do with the rest of their life.
Some clients use the surveillance videos as a tool to show their spouse that they no longer can call them crazy, they can no longer tell their lies, it’s now time to either be that partner they claimed to be all along while they where really giving their time to another person and lying all the time or to end everything in the marriage or relationship and file for that divorce. Having this tool, the client now has the upper hand to decide what to do, either get counseling and work on the marriage or get a separation or divorce.
The background of your private investigator means a lot. Have they ever been in love? Have they ever been married and had their spouse cheat on them? How sensitive will that private investigator be towards you and what ever situation comes in your case? Will your case be treated individually or like another number? It is important that you trust the investigator who works your case.
This lack of professionalism with some investigators to me is a cause of concern the private investigators, with real offices, real staff, real reports, real training, real ethics policies and a real commitment to their clients.
