Ethics in Business

What is Ethics?  What about ethics in business?  Ethics and morals are interchangeable.  In order to have ethics you need morals. "Thou shall not steal"  "Thou shall not kill"--not all rules are standard or part of a  morality course.  Eating jello with a knife, for example, is a breach of etiquette.  But not morally wrong.  What about crossing in the middle of the street. Jay walking?  Now that is a law! Women in business--is it okay to pay men more than women just because of gender?  Get those resume' ready and sharpen your interview tactics and "Go Get That JOB!"   But remember  the day before the interview:

  • Background check the corporation you are applying
  • Get a good night sleep
  • Eat a lite breakfast
  • "Dress for Success"
  • Get there at least 10 minutes before the interview
  • Tell the truth

When researching corporation history-- you will be aware of some of the details which may be presented.  There may be a pre-test about the corporation.  You will be on top of things.
Get a good night sleep, you want to hear and understand everything which is presented to you.
Eat a lite breakfast--don't want your stomach talking more than you.
Dress for Success - depends on the setting- if construction and you are applying for labor- wear shirt, jeans and hard boots.  If you are applying for manager, financial advisor, please wear appropriate attire.
Get there at least 10 minutes before the interview - never be late for an interview.  Tardiness gives the employer a heads up on your puncuatlity.
Tell the truth- the interview already has your information before him/her.  If you lie, they will know it.

So is it okay to Lie?  I guess you say that depends on the circumstances.  If one was negotiating for the release of someone who had been kidnapped, it would be okay--this would lead to the safety of the victim. On the other hand if one is in a court of law, you lie you will go to JAIL.  What about the work place?

Ain't ethics in business a misnomer as in 'contradiction in terms'?..

....just kidding, thank you for reminding people that business and ethical behavior are not mutually exclusive.
