That's right, Variety reports that Justin Timberlake has signed on to play Napster co-founder and Facebook founding president Sean Parker, and I'm half-asleep already. Yes, I understand that Aaron Sorkin, genius-God-of-all-that-is-interesting-and-worth-watching (or last least A Few Good Men, The American President and the first four seasons of The West Wing) has written the script. I also know that David Fincher (Fight Club) is directing, and the eternally pubescent Jessie Eisenberg (The Squid and the Whale, Adventureland) has been cast. But somehow, I'm just not ready for a movie about social networking. Even after reading Aaron Sorkin's Facebook page.
Will the story of how Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin created Facebook as undergrads at Harvard, became crazy rich, and then crazy angry with each other, be far more riveting than, say, the 24th season of 24? Probably. But that doesn't mean you'll be seeing me at the box office.
Am I just wrong here? Have you been waiting since 2005 for someone, anyone, to come out with Facebook: The Movie? What if it were really called (as it is) The Social Network? Would that get you chomping at the bit?
