It sadens me to read and hear how families are going hungry.
In this last week I was approached in the parking lot by,
clearly the broken hearted, asking for change to buy food. On
the other hand, when I'm out at a restaurant, they all seem to
be busier than ever. It appears we have two different
extremes. So what's the solution?
As a small business owner I believe it's our's, and the
church's, responsibility to help those in our community who
need help. Our nation is so far in debt that our government
is incapable of giving anymore funding for food. It seems as
if we are always looking to the government to "bail us
out" of our financial problems. We act like children and
the government, our parents; believing that there is this unlimited
source of money that "grows on trees". That as an
American citizen it is a constitutional right to receive money to
solve our bad decisions. So again I ask, what's the
solution?
My solution is to begin with one small step at a time.
To begin in my community. The members of my studio have
been donating their spare nickels, dimes and quarters to
"Change A Life". Beginning Wednesday, May 6th we
will be serving free dinners to those who need help at my studio.
We may only serve 3 or 4 families. But it's a
beginning. I trust that it will grow and from there we will
be able to reach out farther and farther into other communities.
Hopefully other businesses will notice this act of community
service and will also get involved. I've noticed that
this has already happened within my business and our members are
thinking of other ways we can help those in need.
In closing, small business owners and church leaders, just do
something - anything, no matter how small and we'll get through
these difficult times together - as a community.
