- Check for special packages online: I would say that in this economy, visiting the hotels' websites is a must. Most of the hotels are offering great deals, which sometimes include lower room rates, show tickets, dinners and/or restaurant discounts and sometimes free slot play.
- Coming to celebrate your birthday? Please check your driver's license. Most of the time driver's licenses expire on your birthday. And... If you are planning on gambling or joining one of the player's clubs, you won't have much luck with an expired license.
- The casino floor is a gaming area, and nobody under the age of 21 is allowed on the casino floor. Now, I understand it is hard to avoid the casino floor when you are traveling with your family - most of the times you have to walk through the casino to get to restaurants, shows, stores and other attractions. If you are with children or anyone under the age of 21, just keep walking. Do not try to stop to put your lucky dollar in one of the machines, any casino employee has the obligation to tell you that children are not allowed in the gaming area. I also understand that a 6 month-old baby is not going to push the buttons in the machine (believe it or not, I have been told this before), but either way by law or by common sense the casino floor is not a place for children. Why would you want to bring your kids into an environment filled with smoke and alcohol? And no, I am not saying that you won't be able to try your luck in one of the thousands of machines or tables you'll find in Las Vegas - bring you nanny along, if you cannot afford it or don't have one, you can hire a local nanny for a couple of hours while you have fun. Just do the research needed, and I am sure you'll find great people to take care of your children.
- Usually hotels' check in time is 3PM and check out time is 11AM. So... please don't take it on the Front Desk Rep. when you can't get out of bed by 11AM (because you had too much fun the night before) and have to pay a late-check out fee. They are doing their job just like everybody else. I want to say that in every single hotel in Las Vegas , employees want to make you happy; they want you to enjoy and come back because their jobs depend on it. Like I said before, please do not take it on the reps. If you are disappointed with something or feel that a situation is unfair, just ask to speak with one of the supervisors or managers. They have been trained to be ready and solve almost anything when it comes to customer service satisfaction.
- Bring your walking shoes: walking up and down the Strip is a great (and cheap) way to experience the different attractions. Also, don't miss the Fremont Street Experience, which is in the older part of Las Vegas . Free concerts and lots of souvenir stores - even if you are not going to buy anything, you'll spend hours just window shopping.
Going to Las Vegas? Be a Proactive Tourist
So... Las Vegas ... Sin City ... and you can't wait! Casinos,
shows, lights, interesting people and lots of fun things to do.
While working in one of the hotels in town, I see that sometimes
visitors are not aware of what it is to be in Vegas. I have some
tips for you if you are planning to come and visit for a weekend, a
week or maybe longer.
