I have way too many books. Where is a respectable place I can donate them?

Report Abuseyou can trade them on bookmooch.com or paperback swap.com. Its a good way to get rid of unwanted books and get new ones to read.

Report AbuseCall your local library. If your library has a book sale as a fund raiser they will probably accept your old books. You could also try Goodwill.

Report AbuseThere is no such thing as "too many books". Unless they are romance novels or something. Just get some more shelves. :)

Report AbuseHospitals need things to read, while waiting for tests.Even the patients that have to stay for a long time for rehab on injuries probably would enjoy something to read to pass their time. Some hospital gift shops sell used books .

Report AbuseI had this problem when I was moving a couple of years ago, and to my surprise, my local library would NOT take any donated books. I was shocked - call your library first to make sure! Womens' shelters & senior citizen centers will take them. half.com or ebay are great if you want to keep the books around for a while and then worry about shipping them out. You could also try used bookstores - they exist by buying old books and taking donations.
I live in Chicago and in my neighborhood, someone has taken an old newspaper vending box and converted it into a book swap - type thing. When you finish a book, you put it in the box and take a new one. When you finish that one, you do the same thing - it's a really great idea!
