Ah summer time! One of a teenagers most valuable times of year. Especially if it's the summer before your senior year in high school. Many don't just want to go out and party, hang with the crew and enjoy our time before we hit that lovely grindstone known as high school.
SENIORS PAY ATTENTION!!!
Even though we want these things for our summer (not to mention a summer job for that bit of pocket cash. And by the way why is it so hard for teenagers to get jobs lately? Is this a recession or what?) we have to realize that summer can be one of the most crucial times to start planning for out futures.
Several things to get a jump on before senior year include community service hours, SAT/ACT prep (If you haven't taken it or are retaking it. Yeah it SUCKS! BOO! LOL) and scholarship applications. So lets start with community service.
Well my school requires at least 26 hours to graduate for senior year and I'm grateful enough be part of a program that gives me 6 hours already! But for the other things, some for which the school may not provide, it never hurts to look around for events. Stuff is always happening in your city, however dull and boring it seems right now, it's something. Most cities have a webpage and there are plenty of other places to look for community service. Remember it's all for a great cause and some of the things can be really fun to do to. Beats lounging on the couch watching reruns on MTV all day.
SAT/ACT preparations are crucial because as we know...it's the test to get into college. Listen I've already taken the test twice and it sucks, but hey third times the charm. My mom has been telling me to do some prep as I waste away in my computer chair everyday and even looking for the stuff for an hour will help. And it does. Some schools offer classes for the test but for those who don't well hit up the bookstore and get you some prep books. Barnes and Nobles is LOADED with them lol. Remember it's offered year around and you just have to focus! C'mon we can get higher than a 19! Lol!
Scholarships. The big C word. College. It's here and it's practically in our face. But alas that lovely campus with the divine halls of higher learning resign are expensive. Very expensive. "I can't afford that! It's either choosing to eat one night or eating for a week!" O...M....G. Wow. These are the times where I wish money really did grow on trees. But there are plenty of scholarship opportunities out there for everyone. And I mean EVERYONE. A good website to use is Fastweb.com (don't sue me YOU own that! Fastweb that is. lol) You can fill out your own personal profile complete with financial needs and where you stand with money and they will even give you scholarship opportunities from the college of your choice! Sarah Lawrence woot woot! Too bad I don't have $40,000... *sigh* But use the internet and research! Use these hot summer months not only for fun, but for getting prepared as well!
But most of all. Just have fun your senior year. Because after all you only are in high school once. Might as well milk the four-year cow for all its worth. Mine doesn't seem to be giving out too much milk though lol...
