How Michael Jackson's death impacted the online world
editor
Michael Jackson's death
has had an enormous impact on many of us--much bigger than we even
anticipated. We've heard his music being pumped out of car
radios, we've seen his videos and interviews on TV, and his
face is on the front page of every news publication. But how did
most of us hear of his death? The Internet. While big news
companies like CNN stated he was hospitalized and in a coma, gossip
site TMZ put the world in a frenzy by posting that the pop singer
had in fact died. Paparazzi invaded the hospital and the Jackson
family's personal space, even photographing the 911
paramedic's monitor (photo at left). Twitter-trending topics
were overtaken by various incarnations of Jackson's name and
people speculated wildly via Facebook updates. Is this where we now
get our reliable news from? Tabloid sites and Twitter?
Gawker's site, Valleywag, kept tabs of the impressive impact
the news about Jackson's death had on the internet
yesterday:
- Leading news websites saw traffic surge to 4.2 million visitors
per minute from around 2.75 million visitors per minute, according
to Akamai.
- CNN's traffic grew five-fold in one hour and the site
clocked 20 million page views.
- Twitter had its biggest spike in traffic, to 5,000 tweets per
second, since Barack Obama's election as president, according
to co-founder Biz Stone.
- Facebook status updates tripled.
- AOL Instant Messenger went down for 40 minutes.
- TMZ, which broke the news of Jackson's death, crashed
several times amid a surge of traffic.
- The LA Times, which got early confirmation of the death, went
down, as well.
- For about half an hour, Michael Jackson queries weren't
working on Google News.
- Wikipedia froze amid an edit war on Jackson's page.
We're not sure what other events could potentially lead to this
level of online meltdown. For those of you who were doubting the
huge, global impact of the king of pop, stand corrected. [

I also agree with Veronique. She sounds like a very resonable and non judgemental person.Kudo's
We are all gifts of God and isn't it our duty to leave a mark in time or in his case a legacy? I hope I am rememberd when I am gone...

My heart felt sympathy for the loved ones that Michael Jackson left behind. I have been a fan of his for many years, to me I feel that we had lost a musical genius, an legend, an icon. Rest in Peace Oh Dear One, the world would never be the same without you, but now we know this God has gather up a fallen angel that loves you as much as we do.

Regardless of his personal behavior, which I question was as innocent and altruistic as he is being characterized, MJ had as big an impact on the music industry as Elvis, Frank Sinatra and John Lennon had during their life times. Each of them had questionable personal lives but are still recognized as musical geniuses.
As for MJ, he along with all of us, will be judged for his behavior on earth by a power stronger than any one of us.

I love how all the negative comments make towards MJ are made by white sluts & bitches. First of all MJ is an effin legend the whole entire world knows who the hell he is. Second without MJ there wouldn’t Justin Timberlake, Usher, Chris Brown, and all the pop music artists you listen too. So shut the effin up and pay your respects to him no matter what he did in his personal life. RIP Michael Jackson. You will be greatly missed.

Well Almost everyone has taken a shot on him!
Someway or other!
Some had issue with his appreance and some had concerns with his life style.Beyond all that Glitz and Glamour, Controversies and Scandals we always forget that he was a human, and as human we have right to be wrong. That poor soul has suffered more than he bargained for.
NEXT TIME B4 PLACING ANYONE UNDER THE MICROSCOPE BARE ONE THING IN MIND THAT EVERY ONE HAS RIGHT TO THEIR PRIVICY only their action influencing society in what everway should be discussed NOT THEIR PRIVATE LIFE.
Instead of having so much wealth and many Fans that Poor soul departed as a very lonely person.

Had the world but was unhappy, very unhappy. There must be something else life is about! Seen him since his beginning, and he was great! But no value in his heart, what did he not have in life? What was missing? Did his life have any meaning? Micheal and the whole world are looking for the peace only found in Christ, the reason we exist.
