Thanksgiving will be here before we know it and hordes of
people will be on the <a rel="nofollow"

Some of you may spend hours on the road to get to your
Thanksgiving destination. I can remember trips growing up that felt
like they were months long. We had all the
‘travel games’ but they usually ended up being
something we fought over so my father taught us games we could play
that only used our eyes and our brains. We didn’t travel
often when my kids were
young, but we traveled often enough that I taught them those
games!

The ABC game was always my favorite.
It’s just finding the letters of the alphabet in order. The
only rule we had was it couldn’t be on a license plate or
inside the car. Otherwise all letters were fair game. Q was always
the hardest to find…I’d be searching all the gas
stations for a Quik Trip.. There was also the ABC Animal game. You
took turns naming animals starting at A and ending at Z. Everyone
got to name an animal for each letter. Q was always interesting in
that game too. I liked playing the States game also. We would see
how many different states we could find on license plates. Once a
plate was spotted, no one else could use it as their state. You
could have the same state as another person. It just couldn’t
come from the same plate. That game came about because I
didn’t think it was fair the license plates were left out of
the ABC game. I was a difficult child.

Of
course I-spy was one of our traveling games too. It usually
didn’t last long. Someone would say ‘I spy something
big and gross…it’s your nose!’ and then the
fight would be on. The joys of siblings.

If
you take a trip this Thanksgiving, I hope you have a safe and sane
journey. Things can get ugly pretty quick in a car full of kids. A
few reminders: Make sure your map is in the glove box before you
leave. Stop every 100 miles whether you’re tired or not and
stretch your legs. Don’t eat <a rel="nofollow"

that’s been in your car since mile one.
Remember your sense of humor when things happen that are out of
your control. And give thanks when you reach your destination in
one piece!

I loved looking for different states on name tags. I like to do that now, even just driving around the city, there are so many transplants here in Atlana, I can play the game myself! ;D
