How to Visit Your Husband in Prison: 18 Tips for Mrs. Madoff

Disgraced financier Bernard Madoff arrived with much fanfare in July at the Federal Correctional Institute in Butner (BFCC), NC, to begin serving his 150-year sentence for orchestrating the biggest Tupperware party in the history of finance. As a native North Carolinian, I began thinking about Bernard’s wife, Ruth, and what visiting Bernie at the BFCC will be like. I took a trip up the road to Butner to explore for myself, and provide some budget tips given Ruth’s current financial situation — she is down to her last 2.5 million. As she must get every expenditure over $100 approved by the trustee liquidating her husband’s estate, I think she will find travel in this region most appealing …

Butner is a lovely little town of just under 7,000 people in Granville County, which has experienced major growth in recent years due to its close proximity to the Triangle region of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. If you do a MapQuest, it’s about 3.3 million light years away from the Manhattan, Palm Beach and Cap d’Antibes that Bernie Madoff had once so embraced with greed and gusto.

Since Ruth’s hairdresser in Manhattan told her not to come back, she may want to take advantage of the Great Clips adjacent to RDU at Brier Creek Commons. I called them, and they will take her at any time without an appointment. A cut, shampoo, and partial set of highlights can be had for under $60. And there will be no nasty looks from other clients.

Next off the highway is the Falls Lake Recreation Area. While not suitable for the Madoff’s former $1.5 million, 55-foot yacht, named “Bull,” it does have plenty of RV hook-ups, boat ramps and other amenities for outdoor recreation. No room for Jet Skiing or bass fishing on this busy itinerary, but up the road there is the South Granville Country Club. Memberships are available.

I know you reap the rewards from a wealthy husband you also have to bear the disgrace and shame of a b------ like her husband...no I dont believe she knew, men like him never talk business with their wives they are too busy trying to be bigshots, narcissistic, cheating and way too full of themselves, besides sharing that information only makes him look bad in her eyes, hes a pompous ass and cant look bad in anyones eyes, thats why he did it..............

We don't know that she did know. However, she did not embezzle the funds or she too would have had to endure the trial and put on blast like Brooke Astor's son's wife was. She had proven herself a bad seed before but I digress. She gave up her funds given as a gift or her own right to right some of the wrongs of her husband. This article makes fun of a woman that yes was used to the high life but did not know that it was going to be stripped from her and why. Then she had to see her husband's mistress shame her even more with her "memoirs"-- for money at that.

You sleep with rats, you wake up with fleas. Not the way the saying goes, but I love dogs. She may or may not have known, but she profitted from his criminal ways so she has to pay a little. She is still a lot richer than most of us. She is making out like a bandit.Which Madoff is.

We do not know what she knew,,,,but when she tried to shield their assets,,,,then she become a party to the crime....I think that her keepstake of 2.5 million is an extreme slap in the face for people who lost their money,,,,,,I personally would not allow her to have that nor welfare.
