Is organized religion a scam?

A question I'm sure alot of christians have dealt with at some point. I've been to dozens of churches over the years, both catholic and protestant trying to find "the one". After years of searching I now believe that "the one" just might not exist. I'm looking for answers to my questions about the bible and christianity just like so many others. I've asked pastors and priests for help, and I think I can safely say no one has all the answers. Not even answers that desperately need answering. The Bible is, for lack of a better word, complicated. It is steeped in symbolism, and of course  alot has most likely been lost in translation from hebrew to english. That's bad enough, but add a couple thousand years and countless  corrupted church leaders in between the original and today's translation, interpreting the bible seems pretty impossible. Preachers and such have been of little help to me. Take any passage in the bible and ask ten different preachers to interpret it to you, and you'll get ten totally different interpretations. I think the best you can do is pray and interpret for yourself. I personally have come to the conclusion that the Bible is God's way of saying no one is ever going to be good enough or know enough to get to heaven alone. But I also think the fact that Jesus' death negates our ignorance. So, I'm not really worried anymore, but I would like to know what someone else thinks about it.

I hear where you're coming from. I've all but given up trying to find (and subsequently fit into) the Right Church. I am a Christian, and I love the Lord, and I truly believe that Jesus' death on the cross took care of everything, so that we don't have to be concerned that our inability to figure everything out theologically will somehow stand in the way of a pleasant afterlife. :) And truly, every sermon, no matter how edifying, is really only one of many, many perspectives. I think it's fine to take what value we can from them without feeling as though we must swear allegiance to any single pastor, congregation, or denomination. Christ alone is the Shepherd, and is all we need.

All religious faiths were invented by humans. Therefore they are all quite simply FALSE.

I don't know if organized religion is a scam yet, but If it is, then that possiby means the bible could be a scam too... That would mean that the religious leaders made up the bible and changed it over the years to include the "New Testament" which tells you that you can still go to heaven if you're a sinner that all you have to do is accept "Jesus" a person I've called out to thousands of times and yet I have never heard his voice or received a sign that couldn't be explained by a simple coincidence... I'm not saying that I'm am atheist or hat I don't believe in GOD, but the way they try to scare you into thinking you're going to hell for any little sin you don't confess is hard to believe. If GOD is all love and caring and "the provider" and he knows the past, present, and future, then why would he even create a person that is going to end up in hell for all eternity? Why do humans get to go to heaven and animals don't? That seems very unfair... Nobody knows the truth about the afterlife, even the videos that show you people who have died and returned can be very biased or flat out lies if they stand to gain a profit from donations, tithes, offerings, etc... What's up with those christian leaders who sucker you into donating $1,000 or more on TV. They seem more like rich business men and marketers rather than true religious leaders. What about the church that keeps sending me letters every month about a new donation? The letters look EXACTLY like sales letters with a bill attached to a return envelope... I'm starting to lose my faith in religion, not in GOD... The messed up things society has done to the idea of GOD and the afterlife is ridiculous... "You will be cast into the lake of fire for ETERNITY" that sounds like an evil GOD to me, if he already knew before he created you that you would end up in HELL... Pure BS, the only way they can make money off you is to scare you into paying up, just like government

Find out your own truths and don't let others make those decisions for you. God is a larger aspect of ourselves. It really depends on your level of awareness. Do you really think a loving God would choose some over others? We are ALL in this together and we will ALL find our way back to him/her/it.. it is inevitable.. so enjoy the ride!

I have similar thoughts as well Maria. I'm not here to renounce Jesus or God but, I am here to say that I believe we have probablly been misguided by religious organizations and translations. I book i'm reading called "Fossilized Customs" shows how the Romans used religion as a tool to manipulate the pagan masses and merge Christianity with it hence, a "universal" or Catholic tradition. I have no bones with anyone so please refrain from any anti-catholic statements, etc. The books really good you should check it out.

I think we need to have an understanding from a Hebreew perspective because, many of these religous organizations within Christianity all follow the Council of Nicea to the core which makes them universal or catholic at their roots whether they admit that or not. Like I trust the Romans, do you? Personally, I think Constantine was a politician who used religion to control and manipulate public opinion, sound familiar? As far as partisan politics, its a foodfight meant to distract people while the Elite/Illuminati/Bilderbergers steal all of the gold out the back door (i.e., the Federal Reserve-Libertyforlife.org). At the end of the day, look to God not man. I can do without religiousity (i.e., my clubs better than yours, blah, blah, blah) as a Rabbi Bar Zadok at Kosher Torah calls it. I don't like Government churches either.
