Less is more: Minimus helps you pack smarter
user
Savvy travelers know, whether you’re packing toiletries for a
weeks-long European vacation or an overnight camping trip: less is
more. The secret to lightening your load (and looking like a
million bucks while you’re away from home) is to carry tiny
versions of your favorite products. But who wants to drive around
town looking for a dozen different brands? Wouldn’t it be great if
there was a place where you could conveniently purchase travel size
versions of everything you needed for your trip?
Fortunately there is.
Minimus.biz carries hundreds of items, from domestics
like laundry soap and shoe polish, to foods like single-serving
jams, to personal care products. The company was launched by the
Shrater family after they guiltily tossed out one too many
condiment bottles at the end of a cabin vacation. Their goal is to
help you avoid hassle and waste -- and make travel fun again.
You can purchase Minimus productsindividually
or in kits. We love the thoughtfully-arranged, TSA-friendly kits,
as well as dozens of other themed packages. (Check out “Mommy’s
Hospital Overnight Bag,” the “Summer Camp Kit,” and the “Adventurer
Medical Kit.”). Just point and click and Minimus will deliver your
choices to your home, or—how convenient is this?—to your final
destination.

Grommet think you will love!

How is this not wasteful? Wouldn't it be better to buy the inexpensive little reusable 3-oz travel containers at any drugstore and fill them from your large bottles at home before you leave for each trip? Travel-size products are always so expensive for the amount too.

This post sounds like an ad.
In any case, there are places to buy these things. They're called Target and Wal-Mart. Every one of them has a trial-size aisle. And no, I don't work for either one.
Susan, you make a good point, but things like toothpaste and shaving
cream are different matters. :)

Jules from Daily Grommet here. I think for the admirably hyper-organized types....Susan's point is a good one. If you have products that can be refilled, like shampoo, by all means do that. It's true though, that some products like toothpaste, don't work so well. On the subject of waste, I am just back from a vacation so waste is really on my mind. My family tends to rent houses and do a lot of cooking, to save money. And I always buy the same condiments, oils, jams etc. locally at each house. I have to buy way more than we need and the waste at the end of each of our stays is terrible. Minimus helps to eliminate the PREDICTABLE waste of such a trip.

Hi all - thanks for your feedback about Minimus.biz - in addition to Jules' points above, I do want to explain a bit about how Daily Grommet works. These videos and stories we put together are based on our reviews of new, or innovative products we've researched. We like to find businesses - often family owned, or "little-guy" businesses - that we think have hit on a smart idea and then support them by telling others about what they do. We are not paid to do these reviews. Minimus is actually quite unique - they have products you can't find in a Wallmart or a Target, though your point is well taken "Spam" - if all you need is toothpaste & shampoo, this probably won't be for you. We saw this service as more of a fun way to stock a vacation home (they offer free shipping ahead), and you'd be amazed if you pop over to wander the (virtual) aisles by how unique and special many of their "mini-products" are. Would love to hear what you think and if you agree after you've the chance to dig a bit more deeply. This family biz is really quite impressive.

I think this is a great post. Some products you may need can't be found at walmart or target. Sometimes you don't want to use Pantene and Crest. And airlines are still particular about what you bring. A bottle, 3 oz or less cannot be unmarked or handwritten.
