It's no wonder, either; the city has a long history of running over business and residents with the Mayor at the wheel. take for instance CJ's Grocery, a little, small store that had served Melissa residents for over 10 years. It's closed now- to make way for a wider road and a bike trail.
"Dorman came thru my drive-thru about three days before I closed," says Joe, the sole surviving owner of the store he and his brother started after immigrating from Pakistan. His brother passed away a few years ago, leaving Joe to take care of the business and his family. "He had a guy in his car that bought a pack of cigarettes. Dorman gave me the money, I gave him the change, they left. He never said a word to me. After 10 years, he never even said a word to me."
Strange behavior, some say, for a Mayor who pledged two weeks later as he began his campaign for re-election to bring business to Melissa- and who serves as the President of the Melissa Economic Industrial Development Corporation.
"You would think that the MEIDC would have offered him a way to stay in Melissa," other business owners comment. "He seems intent on driving business away."
Observations, unfortunantly, backed up by a long history of news stories and litigation. It started as soon as the Mayor took office, 12 years ago. First, it was an RV sales and service center that planned to open on highway 121. "Not so fast," said the Mayor. Then it was a Brookshires grocery store. "Not there", said the Mayor. Then it was Wildwood RV Campground. "We don't need you in my town", said the mayor. And then it was Clear Cube Ice. "I want your land," said the Mayor. And then there was an insurance company: "Not on that land", said the Mayor. And the list goes on and on.
The Mayor touts all he's done for Melissa: Brought a water tower to Melissa when the town couldn't afford to buy the land. He's found a way to pat himself on the back for buying land and selling it back to the city- but long time residents and business owners point out that when, according to Dorman, the city couldn't afford to buy land for a water tower it was because Dorman was using their money to fight local businesses in court, trying to take their land.
It's behavior that continues to this day, as evidenced in this video, taken a couple of weeks ago at a Melissa City Council meeting. In it a local land owner blasts the mayor for not allowing him to use his land.
As the person who posted the video notes- the sound get's much better as the video continues.

Report AbuseThanks for helping to expose the truth from those who have experienced damage by Dorman and those who are next in line to be hurt.
If a person in office damages you and does not allow you to speak, it must come out somewhere.
With the public corruption that roars through the political segment of Melissa there is not a chance for one to be heard.
Neighbors who believe all is ok with the city have their eyes closed to what is really going on. That is understandable.
You could not know what is going on at city hall when it is not you there. And what goes on behind closed doors.
There are too many coming forward who have threats made to them by a city hall individual. Employees and electives.
They all are directed to one individual. Wake up and realize that just because you did not know it happened, it still is true.
Mayor David Dorman is spiteful and will spend more of your tax dollars fighting someone than ever trying to work with them.
This may not be your case but it is others. You can talk all day of the good -no big deal. That is what is expected, not what is praised.
So do you sweep the bad under the rug and allow it to continue?

Report AbuseMayor David E.Dorman "forgot" after one “deal” of making over 698,000.00 on one land deal and the city getting screwed. Mayor statements, “week 1- I never made money, week 2.- I never made that much money, I mean I made like only over $350,000.00 only, week 3- I had to split all the money that I made three ways and I had to pay taxes like everybody else, so in reality I lost money. Week 4- I made so much money that I was able to give like $25,000.00-$50,000.00 to every organization in Collin County and I made a movie about it. .........And I had money left over to buy a bag of flower seeds for the girl scouts. Well, I forgot I didn't really buy the flower seeds, I lied again...they were donated by some little old lady and I wanted to take credit for it so I could get my picture in the paper again.”
Who else did he forget got paid off?

Report AbuseDorman & Son, got the boost at Tues Debate: Dorman had the buttons, signs and t-shirts going at meet the candidate which is illegal. No campaigning was allowed as a multi year mayor was told. All other candidates stayed in line on this issue.
JJ Chapa was told that he really does not run who comes and goes in the city. Harrassing young women is out of the question as the police showed him on Tuesday evening.

Report AbuseMelissa City Council has decided to cut their own throats by stepping as a group to endorse current Mayor David E Dorman.
Problem is that only 4 council members are shown and names listed. Last count show we are missing council members.
But Dorman states the council is backing him? Do we see a problem??
Another Dorman Lie already- the council is a whole not part.
Unethical to endorse as a whole.
By Dan Trott, Randy Kaiser, Stan Mercer, Bill Reynolds “hitching their wagon to a star”
or more likely “ hitching their name to a criminal” they have become co-defendants.
They were all along, but after the light has been shed and stepping to the forefront again to say “this is the man we will follow” there should be no doubt that they are willing to continue on the path of Dorman and Crime.
They would prefer to continue to be Dormans dog than step up to the plate for the best of the city.
Of course in history, we have court documentation the words at city hall ---for the best of the city we must hide everything so that no one finds out the TRUTH. It will ruin all of us if the truth is exposed. www.VoteDorman.info
Guess how many have heard that and willing to testify?

Report AbuseI have lived in Melissa for many years, and have seen the city grow in a postitive way under the guidance of Mayor Dorman. If you actually get the facts straight, you would know that Mayor Dorman has done a wonderful job helping our great city grow in a responsible way for it's citizens. The mis-information that has been spread by unsigned letters may have some residents questioning their current mayor, but if you actually talk to him, or know the facts, you would know that he is an honorable steward of our city, and has saved the taxpayors money time and again. Vote for Mayor Dorman, and continue to watch our city thrive!
