Part of the healthcare problem in this country is not knowing the cost of the procedure that's being performed. We all go in expecting insurance to pick up a major portion, so we don't care about the total cost. This has allowed the pricing to get out of hand.
As my insurance has started to cover less and less, I've really started paying attention to what medical pros are charging so I know what I'm going to have to pay. Trying to get the charge up front is not that easy.
Case in point- I had a procedure done in February of this year, cost $900. I had to have the exact same procedure done in August, so I called to get the cost before scheduling, and was told $900. However, during the 2nd procedure, the pro casually mentioned that I would need an injection this time. I complied, and am paying for it.......literally. That injection brought the total cost up to $1300.
This experience, and others like it, are making me question the motivation of medical professionals.
They should all have to be up front with the price of their procedures. If there is a material change to that price, we should be informed of that change before proceeding. If they don't know the cost, they shouldn't perform it. Quit skirting the issue, and tell us- How much is your fee to do this?
