New favorite ceramics: Michelle Antonisse

These tonal, hand-painted ceramics from set-designer-by-day Michelle Antonisse caught my eye at the inaugural Brooklyn Flea last weekend, so I tracked her down to ask her a few questions about her work. She's been producing the line for about two years and notes that her designs are "microbiology-inspired" (although they also remind me of stained glass), and she paints each piece herself using permanent, dishwasher-safe liquid porcelain.


Prices start at $17 for a one-of-a-kind egg cup and range up to $38 for a serving bowl here in her Etsy shop; the collection also includes regular bowls, serving bowls with handles, and creamer pitchers (above and at left). Pay no attention to the fruit juice in the background—it's not for sale.

I didn't see any mugs currently up for purchase in her Etsy shop, but she had them at the market and would probably do one up for you if you asked nicely.

    I was given one of these mugs as a Christmas gift and love it. It's my favorite. The design is special and one of a kind.

    My daughter and I each recieved a mug for Christmas and they are now our mug of choice to use. After many washings they are still just as beautiful as the day we got them.

    I love these! They are so cute. It would be fun to put some flowers in and use as a centerpiece!

    I love pieces with a personality like this. In a similar vein are artist Cristina Salust's with gold and platinum plated ceramics. They are all one-of-a-kind and totally gorgeous. You can see some of her work at
