New Kitty Troubles

My boyfriend and I recently adopted a new cat as a companion for
our existing cat. We had been house sitting one of my folks cats
and they got on really well, but when the time came to giver her
back to my folks, Winnie (my current cat) seemed lonely at the loss
of her playmate. So came the idea to adopt someone new. When we
found Marcus he seemed like a good match, similar in age, he's
about 2 shes 3 1/2, he is playful and affectionate. Now we knew
there would be a period of time where Winnie would not be happy
about the new comer, pretty typical of her but give her some time
and she's just fine. We went through all the introduction
steps, keeping with each step until everyone was acting normally
again. The only one that we couldn't quite get was they
recommended us putting them each in their carriers as a way to
intro them face to face but nobody having an upper hand they both
seemed so upset at being in the carrier that they didn't notice
each other. So we let Marcus out of isolation and he wants to play
with Winnie, and of course now she wants nothing to do with him.
She just hisses and runs off. Well now it's gotten to the point
where Marcus will not leave her alone after she hisses and even
"yells" at him. She even seems to be eating less because
she's so stressed, and shes jumpier than usual. ( she's
always been a little skittish) So now what we are doing is
isolating them in turns, where one is out during the day and one
comes out at night, and vice versa. Both of us work 40hrs a week so
don't have a whole lot of time to train Marcus, and we feel
like we are running out of options. We don't want to give him
back because he is a real sweetie, he just plays a little to rough.
Any advice on how to handle this situation?

Two girl cats get along better than one girl cat and one boy cat. They both are adults and that would also make the transition harder. You might need to find Marcus a home, do not take him to the pound please. I also think with both of you working 40hr a week it is a hard adjustment for marcus.
