Obama Kowtows Again, Embarrasses US

So the President bows to the Emperor of Japan?  A sign of courtesy?  Perhaps it might seem that way among unschooled citizens.

However, whether he realizes it or not, Obama is signalling that he is a subject of the Emperor.  Clearly, this is not by accident.  The U.S. Diplomatic Corps ought to have briefed the President that bowing to another leader is a sign of inferiority and submission.

By showing such a great difference in the depth of bows (the Emperor makes a slight bow of courtesy), Obama is telling the Emperor that he (and by extension, we) is a subject (i.e., boy) of Japan's titular leader.

Obama, the man who refused to wear a flag on his lapel, shows his diplomatic ignorance (or actual inferiority in status) to the Emperor.

Is this his way of apologizing, again, to Japan for all the evil we inflicted upon them during WWII?  Our evil round-eyed whiteys were killing off the Emperor's noble soldiers and sailors?  Then again, Obama did not have a Father who fought in WWII, and never heard about Pearl Harbor.

So, was this an accident?  Unintentional?  My vote is "NO!"  I say that Obama's claims to have dropped his contact lens, crack pipe, or whatever, before the Saudi King was yet another convenient Obama lie, which time has exposed. (Notice the slight dip of the King's head.  This is what Obama was to do).

While the Oba Mao bots will be quck to his defense, their rush only will confirm their blind adherence to Obamadom and a total ignorance of diplomatic protocol.  Obama confirmed his inferiority to a King and an Emperor.   The peoples of other countries will see us as a weak nation, begging for forgiveness or favor. That certainly was not the world view under GWB.

Incidentally, Barry, not wanting to be seen as a Colonialist, didn't bow to the Queen of England, and showed her respect, instead, by handing her an iPod loaded with his speeches.

Obama is an embarrassment to all of us, throughout the world.  He does not act like a President, he does not govern like a President, and he does not observe the Constitution like a President.

Sorry, Barry, you are just a lucky tourist who received a four-year, all-expenses paid pass to travel the world and kiss the @sses of the other leaders of the world.  Yes, we Americans were bad!  We are not worthy!  Riiiiight.

This guy is not my President.

Political science teaches that diplomacy is key to having the luxury of asking. If you want, you must be able to say,"what can I do for you", before expecting quid-pro-quo, as a means to forwarding the establishment of a dialogue. Obama is gracious and understands the differences in cultures. that makes all of the difference, in other countries, an the way that they view acceptance. That is the science of politics."Acceptance"...Just a thought..one of my areas of study..

I agree with your thoughts on political science. Being gracious and humble are significant traits for a leader who wishes to persuade and unite. What concerns me is that he ignores the established political protocol and does it his way. Bowing to show another the top of one's head, or even lower, can be seen as disrespectful, mocking, or uncouth. Hand and legs positioning is important, too.

Another potential implication is that one doesn't care enough about the meaning of the ceremony that they aren't bothered with details.

Obama's diplomatic people have the obligation to give him a quick schooling in protocol, ceremony, and symbolic acts. He may have no crew like that, he may be ignoring what they tell him, or he doesn't really care.

Diplomacy is where art meets political science, no?

So, if he is attempting to be courteous, he may inadvertently showing disrespect or ignorance for performing a ceremonial act in poor form.

I had a gut instinct that Obama wasnt the right person for the job.He keeps on proving that I was right. He is making u look foolish in front of the world. I have a question how many people who voted for Obama are now wishing they hadn't.

Mhu, so who is your president then if not......the president? W and Cheney had the whole world hating us so Obama is having to deal w/ that? Estimates say that anti-Americanism is down by half. Why is being hated by the rest of the world a good thing? You're confusing being hated w/ being respected. What's the big deal about admitting what W was incapable of admitting, i.e. that we've made mistakes? Great countries should be humble and accountable. We've made tons of mistakes like slavery and race relations, the way we treated the Indians, internment camps for the Japanese in WW2, the bombing of Dresden, the Iraq war.

Tedster, I don't care what the rest of the world thinks. You assume they have the same education, shared values, same experience, and same standard of living that we do. THEY DON'T. You can't separate those and other factors from their views. Those differences ALL are reasons, by themselves, for others to dislike us. Also, many governments like to revile the US as a smoke screen for their internal problems.

What you consider as humble is being effectively "strategically, financially, and socially on par" with the others.

All of the bullsh!t about "admitting mistakes" is just that. Every country makes mistakes. In many countries, they don't care. In some Muslim countries, were are openly admitting weakness and subservience.

As to your claim about "reduced anti-Americanism," are you serious????? The strongest critics of the US like us more now because we are so distracted and manipulable.

Russia has backtracked on SALT treaties, and is making new multiple warhead missiles. Russia is weighing reintroducing communism.

China is arming itself to a degree we haven't seen in decades. They own our $12 trillion debt.

Korea now is back in the warhead business.

    Iran is nuclear.

Venezuela is arming itself with Russian and Iranian technology.

Nicaragua is suddenly a ward of Iran. I could continue.

Sure they like us, because the they who like us now didn't like us using pressure and position to prevent the very things I mentioned.

Their interests lie in destroying us. Anti-Americanism, as you see it, is reduced because we are going along with their schemes, and are destroying ourselves.

We soon will be at war with other states, just as we are now with stateless actors. Obama has his eyes off the ball, he is playing pick-up politics, and we're all the worse fot it.

Mhu, actually I don't assume what you say in your first paragraph but you make some excellent pts. Even if we disagree on some things, now is NOT a good time to show weakness.
