When it comes to dinnerware, my school of thought centers around the
idea that if it's all white, it all works–indoor, outdoor and for any
occasion. Matte or shiny, organic or finished, the most interesting
table settings are made up with pieces from different sources and
styles—which really comes in handy for accommodating small groups or big ones at a moment's notice.
The 9x9 inch Plaza square dinner plate is a Heath Ceramics classic. $33 per plate.
Organic but still modern, Vera Wang for Wedgwood's Vera Natural Chalk 4-piece place setting is $59.
Famed designer Jasper Morrison designed the porcelain 5-piece Moon place setting with coffee cup for Rosenthal in 1997, and it still looks perfectly fresh today. Available at Moss for $113.
New York ceramist Barbara Eigen designed Pottery Barn's Studio Collection with molds
made from her studio samples, and rendered the pieces in fine stoneware durable
enough for everyday use. 16-piece set is $144.
