I live pretty much a “virtual
life.” My laptop is my best mate, work tool, book, and TV. It is
also a learning
center, a concert stage and who knows what else for me.
Everywhere I go, I take it with me; any hotel room, airport lounge,
or taxi becomes home to me as long as I am online.
What do we use our computers for? Basically, we use them for
keeping in touch. Whether it’s our employers or employees, friends, relatives, or just a
stranger we met in the virtual world called “WWW” – it’s all about
contact, information exchange, making a good impression on other
people and keeping in the loop for everything that’s happening in
the world. Research has shown that internet networking has become a
more popular on-line activity than the champion of all times -
internet porn! Can you believe it?
Our fascination with social networking is explained by Kabbalah: according to
this ancient wisdom, we are all connected spiritually as part of
one "spiritual body". While we have lost sight of this in
our material world, we all long to get back to that sense of
connection. The Internet gives us a chance to do just
that.
Sad thing about it though: we want to be admired and accepted, but
are we ready to admire
others? Do we even have enough interest in someone else’s life
to reply to messages that we receive every day in our Facebook
inbox?
It won’t take long until it will be clear – to be admired we have
to admire back; we have to actually care, we have to help the world
and ourselves to overcome problems and troubles, and be happy
together.
Recent crises around the world – financial, humanitarian, and
personal – show us more and more that we all are connected with
each other, that the world is becoming smaller and we all depend on
each other. Social networking is something that can help us actually feel our
closeness to others around the world, and to be together
virtually.
The task ahead of us is like gluing together the pieces of a broken
vase, but by putting the pieces of our soul back together, we will
open a whole new world. We will learn how to admire others and will
see how our love changes the world around. If we can do this, it
looks like porn will keep losing its popularity, but do we really
care?
