Sheer fun: the perfect scissors for crafting and shredding

When Daily Grommet founder, Jules, headed to San Francisco to scout out some Grommets, she went straight to the little shop of wonders, Bell'occhio, where owner Claudia Schwartz introduced her to these fabulous Fringe Benefits scissors.

Although they’re probably worth having around purely as a conversation piece (just look at them!), they’ll easily earn their keep in a variety of ways. Use them to easily fringe just about anything, from clothing to gift wrap, not to mention that they make that to-be-shredded tower of paper a thing of the past—who wouldn’t want to grab these up and shred that bill right away?

Edward Scissorhands might beg to differ, but we think this may just be the most fun you can have with nine blades. Whether you’re a dedicated crafter who’s already envisioned a dozen possible projects, someone who wants a quick and easy way to add some flash to gift presentation, or just in need of an easy way to shred unwanted documents, a pair of Fringe Benefits scissors may just change your life. It’ll certainly change the way you think about scissors!

I have two pair of these. Don't let them fool you. They don't work all that well. They probably are great for making fringe, but to shred bills - not really. As you cut with regular scissors, the two halves drop away to either side. With these there's all the individual sections, so on anything over a few inches long, they have no where to go and just bunch up and get caught. However, if you get a heavy enough pair of them they do a nice job on those unwanted credit cards!

Hi B - Jeanne from Daily Grommet here. You definitely make a good point; we found that these worked well for shredding if there was just a small area of personal/sensitive info ... but probably too time consuming to try to do a stack of papers. Gotta love the fringe though!
