One of our favorite relaunchers is Jules Pieri, founder of
Daily
Grommet, a site you should all check out.
Jules is a designer, consumer brand strategist, and social media
guru (her last job was President of Ziggs.com).
Jules came up with the fabulous idea of starting a company that
identifies wonderful products and gives a brief but in-depth look
at one “grommet” per day via a short video clip.
Click on Daily Grommet’s link above to see today’s
offering. Jules also writes one of my all time
favorite (and candid and inspiring) blogs. Full
disclosure: we are such big fans of Jules that we asked her to be
on our Advisory Board at
iRelaunch and fortunately for us, she said
yes. Jules took a career break after the birth
of her third son.
A business school classmate of Vivian’s, Jules and I have sat
side by side on relaunching panels at numerous events over the last
couple of years. Jules is always a star on these
panels, talking about how she has carved out high level,
challenging positions for herself throughout her career, often with
non-traditional schedules. Jules generously
closes her presentations by giving out her email address and
extending an open invitation to attendees to contact her for
advice.
One such attendee, Barbara Gordon did just that…and ended up with a part time position at Daily Grommet! Barbara told us: “The Daily Grommet office is full of strong women with many accomplishments, including raising families and leading many a volunteer organization during their ‘at-home’ days. Jules was one of my first networking outreaches, and well, one thing simply led to another.”
This underscores iRelaunch’s view that relaunchers are most successful getting hired via personal connections. Barbara’s relaunch was after an eight year career break that included four moves and the birth of two kids. See our feature on Barbara here. Daily Grommet's staff includes two more relaunching moms in addition to Barbara.
Speaking of networking, Jules is going to lead an iRelaunch webinar on "Getting Back on the Career Track Using LinkedIn" on Monday, February 23rd at 11 a.m. ET. We have found that relaunchers in the 35-55 year old age range either are not aware of how valuable LinkedIn can be for networking or, if they are familiar with it, they may be hesitant to actually set up a profile and use it. Jules will cover all of these topics, using her own LinkedIn account as an example so you can see in real time how to set one up and how to use it strategically in your relaunch. Details are HERE.
