There's a Woman Living in Every Man's Closet

I find the recent story about the man in Japan that reported discovering a woman living in his closet hard to believe. The homeless woman had been living in his closet for one year according to the Yahoo article.

It seems to me that finding a woman living in your closet might be a dream come true for some men. But I do find real life in this case almost harder to believe than fiction. However I do also find stories about women not realizing they were pregnant and suddenly delivering babies ridiculous as well. How can a woman not know that she is pregnant?

Then again, how can a man not realize that someone is living in his closet?

According to the article, the woman even had a small mattress in the man's closet. It is possible I suppose that the man had a huge closet. But it is unlikely that huge closets exist in Japan where space is at such a premium. Japanese homes are practically the same square footage as your average American closet aren't they?

Perhaps the man had a complete jungle of a mess in his closet. The closet could have

been so thick with junk that he never noticed the woman lounging on the mattress in the back.

The woman must not have been a smoker. If the woman smoked the man would have called the fire department quite often and someone would have wondered why his closet was igniting so frequently.

To be fair, most of us have things stashed in our closets that we don't think about until it is time to pack up and change residences. This man obviously did not take inventory of his worldly possessions very often. If he had, he would have noticed that he had inherited a new mattress and a new woman.

I presently live in a large home with a most spacious closet. I think I should consider renting out my closet space to supplement my income and help me buy a gallon of gas .

But what if my “closet” roommate had company where would she entertain guests? Would I have to knock on the door to request that certain pieces of clothing that I

wanted to wear that day be passed to me?

I would say, “Hey Suzy, can you pass me the black dress and if that doesn't fit today how about the red number?”

How does one live in a closet and enjoy all the comforts of home? Can closets be wired for cable and electricity?

This woman in Japan took showers according to the article and was very tidy. Her host never suspected until he wondered why his food was disappearing. I guess he never thought to check his closet or lock that front door. How ironic that a guy would only notice something was amiss when he was foraging for food.

I think a woman would have figured it out well before the one year anniversary.

It took this man a full scale security system connected to his cell phone to finally catch the intruder. Once again, technology, wires, monitors and screens are definitely a man's passion. It took all of these pieces of mass communication to finally make this man realize that someone was living in his closet.

Women are different. We would have noticed our clothes and purses being rumpled.

We would have wondered who was using the extra towel each day and why it was wet.

Woman would have immediately known that someone was freeloading off of them when they realized that their hair products were rapidly being depleted and so was their make-up . Women notice their shoes out of position. We just don't always recognize the signs of pregnancy, but if our shoes are in the wrong place we instinctively know someone is living in our closet.

It would not have taken a high-priced surveillance camera to make most women aware that they had a squatter living in their closet. A woman would immediately become suspicious when the mail carrier began delivering mail and packages to her house with “in care of-the closet” scribbled across it.

Men on the other hand, would need a satellite dish . But then if men had a satellite dish, they would never even see the closet. Their life would only extend as far as the remote and the couch . After all, the closet would be out of channel changing range.

Yes, now I see how a man could not have any idea that a woman was living in his closet for an entire year. I know men. I live with two of them. It could totally happen.
