Tripod to try: change how you shoot photos and video

We're not saying the Gorillapod will turn you into the next Ansel Adams, but this clever, flexible tripod will definitely change the way you take pictures. Thanks to its super grippy feet and multi-jointed legs that bend and rotate, the Gorillapod lets you place your camera just about anywhere--so you'll never miss that perfect shot. Perch it on a jagged rock, wrap it around a tree branch, or set it on the roof of your minivan. (No need to fear: the Gorillapod's unique lock ring always keeps your camera safely attached.)

Gorillapod- Adjustable Camera Tripod

Gorillapod- Adjustable Camera Tripod

Like a traditional tripod, the Gorillapod will steady your camera under low-light conditions (think professional-looking candlelit portraits and gorgeous sunset photos) and assist you in snapping self-timed solo or group portraits (no more begging strangers to take your picture on vacation). But, this gadget is also unbelievably light. So you can toss it in your favorite book bag or the pocket of your lucky cargo pants at a moment's notice and head off to photographic adventures with minimum fuss.

Be sure to choose the Gorillapod that's best for your camera. The Original Gorillapod is ideal for point-and-shoot compact digital cameras weighing up to 325g (11.5oz). The Gorillapod SLR is made to handle lightweight SLR-type cameras and camcorders weighing up to 1.75 lbs (800g).

I bought this for my sister-in-law for Christmas two years ago. She would always prop her camera on top of books, cars, anything to take a group photo with herself included in the picture.

If I remember correctly, it was less than $30 for the smaller one.

I thought this would be perfect for her, but to this day I've never seen her use it. She takes her camera everywhere, but never brings her Gorillapod along. I'm wondering if it's still in the box, forgotten after 2 years, or worse, has it been regifted?! Dare I ask her?

I would love to have one for myself, so that I could take those night time or candle light photos that require slower shutter speeds. I can't hold the camera still long enough for those shots to come out without being blurry.

Kathy - how about if you suggest that your sister wrap the guerillapod around the camera case strap ... something that keeps it close together? We pretty much paralyzed without our gorillapods here because everytime we shoot something without it, it comes out much too shaky for it to be of any use. Hope you get yours - maybe for x'mas??

I love mine! It's exactly what I needed for the family photos we take on our summer vacations every year! I used to always prop the camera on a stack of books on a chair and play around, but still always have a little of the books in the shot. Not anymore! Highly recommended!!
