User Post of the Day: shadow lamps - the cheaper version

i found these great tord boontje lights at pop deluxe. i think they are super cool but also are super expensive at $175 each.

while these lights rock, i found some at ikea (when i ventured there a few weeks ago...in brooklyn!). i think these are very similar and give the same feel. this is called the smart table lamp and is only $19.99. Check them out here. this is the twig.

this one is called snowflake.

the knubbig table lamps were really cool in person. my favorite was the black. i think it would look cool as a centerpiece on a dinnertable or for a wedding. or on your bedside table! the small version is only $8.99 and the bigger is $16.99. find them here.

Methinks this might be a fun and easy project to do yourself. A glass vase or globe, an electric tea candle or light fixture taken out of a thrift-store lamb, and some acrylic paint.

Kind of like those ornaments we made in elementary school? Or you could use a stencil and do it on the outside.

    And there's always glass etching...

Thanks for the post! Really got my DIY juices flowing.

The big difference is the spendy lamps are two-layer, and the inside layer rotates, making a moving picture on your walls.
