Just couldn't decide what style reception I wanted to do..I'm having a small reception (20 guests) and I am debating between just taking everyone out to a restaurant or just having catering done at my mother's home. From all of your experiences what was best for you and your guests not to mention your pockets? Its going to be a bruch (morning wedding) and I thought party platters were too tacky...So I'm weighing my options. Thanks for the input!

Report AbuseMy daughter had finger sandwiches and vegetable trays for her reception. We made them up ourselves, so the cost was minimal. We also had iced tea, sodas and punch for drinks.
Congratulations and good luck!

Report AbuseAn assortment of delectables on platters isn't tacky, especially if there is a main dish. Maybe a chafing dish w/ a fritatta or a quiche. At home there will be a more personal air. With such a small group, you can be sure to get your $$ worth with using a restaurant , no fuss no muss !!

Report Abusei agree that paryt platters are tacky but i would totally go with having it catered. you will not regret it as thats a day you and your husband will want to enjoy with guests and not worrying about making food or anything. My husband and i have been together 10 years and married about a year and a half-we have 2 kids -so trust me,we were all about having something small but very nice. we had a receptin at a restaurant in a small missin town close to where we live and I still get told till this day how much everyone loved our wedding. Overall-I say either go to a restaurant that can accomodate your party and if you cant find one you like, have the reception at home but go with the catering-you wont regret it! Good luck and best wishes!

Report AbuseI just got married less than a month ago, we had a cocktail reception and I loved it! Have it catered at your Mom's. That way you can control the environment around you. You could either have servers walking around with food or have stations set up. Do what makes YOU happy!

Report AbuseMy niece just got married this summer. She had a small, but elegant reception outdoors (need to have a back up plan in case it rains) with white table cloths, fresh flowers, candles, about 25 people. It was so pretty!

Report AbuseL-MAMAZZ..Just because you can choose to have your mom cater your wedding reception doesn't mean everyones family is that nice.. You are truely blessed but the reality is I don't come from a family like that so my maturity level has nothing to do with me not wanting the current guy I JUST started dating to meet everyone RIGHT NOW. You have no clue how my family is so before you comment you need to step outside your world and think before you speak.. Honestly thats like me saying that you are not mature enough to make your own dicisions about where you should have your wedding reception...(You would think really and where did Farra get that from....MY POINT)

Report AbuseAnywho my sister had her wedding reception at a resturant... Plus to be honest it was fun and as her guest and sister I was GLAD she had it else where besides the house which is really not as classy and elegant.. But my sister had people pay their dues like months before the wedding so thats an idea if it doesn't sound too tacky.. But we all understood so it was cool.
