But back to the point: Do you get the urge to buy yourself school supplies (or, ahem, a back-to-school wardrobe) at this time of year? And if so, what's on your shopping list?

Report AbuseTeachers are the ultimate at this! We are almost nerdy in our excitement when we see some new supply or gadget and our spouses just learn to deal. This year, the one that I went gaga for was only $2.99. It was a dry erase board eraser, shaped like a computer mouse with a hidden magnet that holds in onto the whiteboard! The new one I'm coveting one of my kiddoes brought in this week from Big Lots. It's a 3 hole punch/ruler combo that clips into a three ring binder. How cool is that? And it only cost her a buck!

Report AbuseOh, and I always look for the coolest purple pens to grade with! (Brain research shows grading in purple is better on student self esteem than red!)

Report AbuseMy entire family is in LOVE with stuff from Office Depot and Staple! Even my Grandfather can't resist new pens! Clearly, this is a genetic disorder of some sort. LOL!

Report AbuseI love school supplies too and I'm a grown woman. I think it's also because where I grew up school supplies were very scarce. I'm hispanic by the way. Anyway we sometimes had barely something to write with. Sometimes we would use a pencil until it was so small that it was too uncomfortable to write with. Getting color markers or color pencils were a big deal, almost as getting new toy. I guess it's a trauma. :)) Now, I only buy them occasionally. My husband has helped me overcome the trauma because whenever he would see me checking out pens for example, he would tell me : Stop the temptation, don't buy more, you already have enough at home." I would tell him: "yeah but I love this kind of pen, I like the way it feels when you write, so smooth" LOL Anyway since we've been married for a while he has warned me enough not buy them so I have stopped.

Report AbuseEverything mentioned so far is exciting for me at school time! I don't have to buy supplies for the kids anymore but for myself, paper, pens, and a leather backpack top the list. I like decorative printer paper. And those fancy sticky notes mentioned.

Report AbuseAnother teacher here...school supplies are fun. You see a lot of interesting things in the classroom. Thanks for the tip about the dry erase magnetic eraser. Where do they sell these?
