When Your Dog Takes Over

user

Yeah, my spouse wanted a dog.  Much negotiation ensued.  There were business models, budgets, decision trees, and so on presented.

Bottom line however:  Our kids also wanted a dog, so I was toast.  Three on one sucks sometimes. So wham -- labrador puppy.

In the end, the little pooch is kinda cool.  Best part:  She is blissfully unaware of the above negotiation and is therefore shamelessly devoted to me despite my initial issues.  So I'll take it.

BUT -- please note.  I do not think its cool when said dog takes my spot on the couch and proceeds to take a nap.   I do not recall that being part of any model we reviewed.

Shamelessly devoted? Sadly, I admit that is an accurate statement.

I understand your feelings totally. We had lost our family dog of eleven years to cancer a couple years ago. I swore I wouldn't get another. It was heartbreaking to lose a pet and besides, I was always the "feed and clean-up" person. But husband and daughter teamed up and it was two against one! Now we have not just one, but two new pups! One a sheltie and the other a mini doxie. However, the jokes on them....the dogs both bonded more with me (once again, the "feed and clean-up" person)than them!! Now I'm the one that's shamelessly devoted...the doxie even gets to come to work with me!
