Every soul, after seperating from the Supreme Soul (God), starts its journey to reach again to the God, that is, to become whole, to become perfect. for this we have to take several births to get perfected. we are the one who choose the circumstances of our life, we pre decide on our choices.
When faced with a difficult situation, we condemn God that why He is doing this to us. God does not punishes anyone in fact, He cannot. God knows only to Love. He only loves us, pure, selfless love. Think like this- a child wants to play in the rain, the mother tells her not to do it because she will fell ill. but the child does not listen to her and gets wet in the rain and falls ill. Now how can the mother be responsible for the illness of child? it is all child's fault. the same goes with God and ourselves.
