Why it matters

user

Yahoo! posted an article this morning about how President Obama was, indeed, born in Hawaii, despite rumors that his birth certificate was somehow forged or mistaken or in any other way untruthful. Well, I'm glad that our now-president, the man who has been leading our country for over six months now, is in fact ALLOWED to be president by constitutional law, though I think all of this uncertainty should have been cleared up BEFORE he took office. But what concerns me more is this:

This is the headline and the little description Yahoo! gave the article:

Obama's birth certificate real

State officials once again check and confirm that President Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. » Why it matters

Is there anyone in America really stupid enough not to know WHY IT MATTERS??? I'm beginning to wonder if Bill Maher was right after all — America is getting dumber by the day.

Ha, ha! Along the same lines...I was in Disney World a few weeks ago waiting in line to have my bag searched before I could enter the park. A boy and his grandmother were in line behind me, and he asked why we had to wait and get our bags searched. She said it was because of 9/11. He said, "What's that?" She said, "You don't know what happened on 9/11? They didn't teach you that in school?" He said no. She was so disgraced by the apparent state of our school system and the fact that her grandson had no idea what happened on that date that she couldn't say any more. They stood in silence for the next several minutes while we waited. I'm sure if she'd explained about the Twin Towers and the airplanes and the terrorists it would have jogged his memory, but she didn't. I admit I sort of agree with her that every child should know what happened on Sept. 11, 2001, especially since it's in our very recent history, but it makes me wonder if schools aren't teaching it, at least at the younger grades, or if it really IS a school's job to teach it. What's wrong with parents telling their children about it? Why leave it up to the schools if it's that important for children to know?

Same goes for constitutional law. What better time for an educational lesson on how our country works than during a presidential election?

I am not sure what this article is suppose to be exactly about. Of course he has to have been born in the USA to be president.

Your comment below is so much more interesting and disturbing. America is becoming stupid at an alarming rate. The schools are being regulated more and more by our government and 9-11 is a very controversial topic.

Did our government know before hand about the towers? Was it a plan that went horribly wrong? Were the wrong people arrested? ...................and why in the heII did we, Australia, Spain, Poland and Denmark invade Iraq? The schools can't answer these questions......there are no explanations.

I do not care where Obama was born. Both parties are hanging their heads now in embarrassment over his rash decisions and lack of maturity. His presidency is a joke all over the world at our expense.

Habanero: That's an interesting way to look at 9-11 from the schools' point of view. I don't know whether or not they're teaching about 9-11, but I would think they could teach the result of the attacks whether or not they know or believe the reason. Children in America should still know that thousands of people died that day and how they died.

I appreciate your comment about Obama, but that wasn't what I meant by my post. The point of having the nationality rule in our constitution is to help ensure that our ruler would not feel indebted to another nation or ruler simply because he was not born in America, thus placing our nation in danger from an imposing nation. My post was simply to question whether or not Americans today know what our constitution demands of our president. When I saw that link "why it matters" my initial response was to wonder who on earth would click on that link to the article with the actual intention of discovering for the very first time why it matters for our president to be an American national.

    Well put Jett!!!!!

WE need to keep teaching our children about the results of 9-11, constantly.
