Some religions have responded more than others to women's needs and have embraced women as leaders in their clergy, not just in the volunteer ranks, researchers Kelly Morgan and Sally Steenland write in "The Shriver Report: A Woman's Nation Changes Everything."
One big change researchers have noticed in recent years is that women (and men) are more frequently switching religious affiliations, "moving among different faith traditions—and in and out of organized religion altogether." A recent study by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life found that about half of all Americans change their faith at least once during their lives. And the reasons are many: marriage, moves, the search for a faith that better fits their lives and beliefs. Maria Shriver's report on The Today Show today centered on some of the mega-churches where pastors' wives have joined as co-pastors to be more relevant to women who are equal partners at home, or single women and single moms.
Has religion become more important in your life in recent years? Like so many women, have you tried different religious affiliations? And is it important to you to see women represented in the leadership of your religious organizations?

Report AbuseReligion has always been a big part of my life, even as a child... and even more so as I became more educated and hopefully a bit more wiser. It gives me a sense of purpose, belonging and accomplishment (of course outside of the spiritual plusses). I have never moved out of the Protestant belief system, though I have been to mass a few times in my life. I have been Methodist and Baptist primarily in my life.... but no, I don't float through the different beliefs and faiths, though I do try to learn about them and try to understand them. As far as women being leaders in the Church, I honestly have no problem with it even though I would rather see men as a the main Pastor (I know it sounds archaic)... However, I am and always have been of the opinion that when men do not heed the call of becoming a Pastor than God will call Women to do it and they must stand up and do it. So it does not bother me in the least to see women as Pastor or Deacons in a Church, in fact, the first Pastors I ever remember was a woman.
Just my opinion... :D

Report AbuseWomen are often relied on to provide the spiritual center to the family.
Or to be it. If she goes to church, others in the family do, for example. Can create pressure, confusion, for the woman who is searching for her true spiritual life. It's good the study included faith as an area to look at.
