Women save more than men!

shopping-savelikeme.jpg
Not to dis our gender, but I tend to think of us as the ones with the shopping gene. Not that men don't spend money as I wrote here in my old NYT column a while back. Women just seem to spend more, or more frequently.

Not anymore! The recession might be making savers of us all, according to a new online survey by Pricegrabber.com. (Sadly, I can't link to the survey because it's not on their website--or not that I can find. I have the PDF.) The June 2009 Consumer Behavior Report: Economic Trends in Consumer Spending found that:
  • Women economize more than men.   A higher percentage of women reported that they made an effort to spend less on dining out (74%), entertainment (72%), and purchasing online (55%) or purchasing in-store (69%) as compared to men.
And speaking of wants versus needs:
    • Men see flat screen TVs and dishwashers as more of a necessity than most women.
Of course, women view that extra pair of sandals as a necessity. So we all have our issues.

No, Doktor Eevol. If you pay attention, you'll see that it's just particularly unpleasant people such as YOURSELF.

        Glass houses and stones, anyone??

And btw, I've actually actively supported feminism. I just criticize those who attack men. Such as yourself. There's a HUGE difference.

Zom-B, keep posting, because I'm just going to keep reporting.

Have you considered taking your own advice as far as personal accountability is concerned?

Yes, I do usually take my own advice, Doktor.

I have a huge amount of responsibility in my personal life that I handle quite nicely, thanks.

        I think it is true.

I am a clearance rack shopper. I will take the time to go through each item on clearance and find clothes that fit all of us in the family. I have a family of 5 and it is important to save as much as possible.

I have a male co-worker who says only I can find the deals that I do.

I say that is not true. Anyone can do what I do if they have patience. My co-worker being a male wants to run in get what he wants and run out and not have to really deal with the whole shopping experience.

walkerusa.....you are an idiot. Both men and women spend money on stupid stuff, and both men and women play that game you are refering to (about using other people for their money). I think both sexes spend money on retarded things that they don't need, and people to sterotype one sex over the other is just down right ignorant. We all have are story that make us sound good, and make others sound bad. Everyone get the heck over yourselves, and just try to do what's best for you and your family, because that who's gonna get hurt in all of this.
