Write It Down! (Part 2)

The competition for a place on Oprah’s list of reading recommendations is awesome. I can only guess how many would-be authors submit their work to her. How many of these great works of art do you think she actually reads?

Getting one of the major publishers to look at your work - the work of an unknown author - is slim to none. They invest a great deal of time and money to MAKE money. Even if your book is equal to or better than anything Stephen Coonts, J.K. Rowling, Ernest Hemingway or the multitude of other best selling authors, there is nothing in your power to persuade them to take a chance.

Write for yourself! Write because you have a compelling need to put your thoughts on paper. We would all like to think that we are the next major writer on the market ... it isn’t going to happen. Sad but true. So you might as well write for your most appreciative audience - you!

Without the pressure of TRYING to write a best seller, you will be free to express yourself, in your words, with your thoughts and imagination. You will be creating something unique - something written “Just For Me”.

When I started creating my book, I was in several role playing games. They were both challenging, stimulating and fun. Little by little, my main character began to take on life. Conversations with friends tweaked her development ... for instance: “What if women ruled the world? How would things be different than they are in our culture?” I kept pages and pages of notes to refer to.
