Howdy from the "Big D!"
Today I "stumbled upon" this wonderful and FREE opportunity of "the
blog" on Yahoo.com. Isn't it amazing the many blessings that
God provides to us through companies He has blessed, and
then they bless us in return while they are in the process of
trying to SELL us something else? But the best news of
this whole win/win/win process is...we DON'T HAVE to
BUY anything unless we want to do so! On the other
hand, unfortunately, all too often I WANT to do
so!!
Am currently living in an apartment while my brand new house God is
giving me (long story, but I'm sure I'll write it all down
some day) is being built. When I get a notice on my apartment
door that I have a package awaiting me at the Front Office I
get very excited.
Naturally, if others are around I do not let THEM know I
am excited. After all, a 62 year old grandmother
of nine has to maintain a certain degree of
decorum. However, INSIDE I do NOT FEEL like a 62 year
old! After all, WE are the BABY BOOMERS! HOW could
someone who is called a BABY ever be OLD?? Go
figure...
In my vocabulary, as I often remind others, OLDE and PHAT - no
matter HOW you spell them - are 4-letter words. (OK, I'll
admit it right here since I brought it up. I AM PHAT.
However, I'm working on it! Have lost 35 pounds in the last 4
months and am over 1/3 way to my goal - Praise God!!)
Anyway, back to my "surprise" notice from the Front Office. I
always feel like I have a present waiting and I can hardly wait to
pick it up and see what I have gotten.
It doesn't matter one tiny bit that...
>I am the one who ordered it!
>I am the one who paid for it!
What DOES matter is that I am getting a SURPRISE in the mail
and it is already PAID FOR! Yep, it's almost always a
surprise because, being Me, typically it could be one of
multiple items I may have ordered, or even something
which I DIDN'T order but an ACTUAL surprise from someone I care
about and who cares about me - thus - SURPRISE!!
Chances are, however, that I have seen, read, or heard about
it...
>on TV
>on the internet
>from a friend
>in the mail from one of the numberless sales
flyers and/or catalogs that somehow seem to be able to track us
Boomers like a hound dog tracks a racoon!
My most recent catalog was supposedly for "discount healthcare"
products for us Boomers. It had everything from vitamins,
wheelchairs, and air "cleansers" to (how do I put this
gently?)...uh, ...guides for "Great Sex" AND for products
that could help maximize the results thereof! (Yep, I'm
blushing a bit. Some things are just a tad hard to
fathom! Kids today can't imagine the embarassment I endured
as a 16 year old as I sat on the sofa in my living room watching TV
with my date and an ad came on for "feminine products!" OH,
HORROR!!)
Back - again - to discussing my "surprises." (I tend
to get a bit sidetracked these days...) My most
recent purchase was the new "Mighty Glue" or whatever they
call it on TV. My daughter thinks I am crazy to order stuff
like that, but I can hardly wait to get into my new house and see
how much weight it actually WILL hold! Hope I don't
break anything that can't be replaced!
As one of the very first Baby Boomers I am thankful to have
learned through the years how to BE happy. God
has taught me - even through times of great hardship,
pain, and sorrow - that I can still find happiness and contentment
by "blooming where I am planted."
Often people will ask me how I stay so "up" all the time.
Occasionally I have to admit that at times I must "fake it 'til I
make it." I have learned that broadcasting my troubles to the
world around me does nothing to make them better. At times I
will share a problem with a friend or friends and request
prayer. Then, having placed my trust in God to
handle a matter over which I have no control, I put on a smile and
try to brighten someone else's day.
I love life and I love people. I receive my greatest
satisfaction from helping others, and God seems to have given me a
talent for making others laugh. Every time I see a sincere
smile or hear a chuckle from something I have said or done, I
receive great joy. That is probably my favorite method of
"pursuing happiness." The Bible says, "A merry heart doeth
good like a medicine."
A long, LONG time ago I learned to start every day with another
scripture... "This is the day the Lord has made. I WILL
rejoice and be GLAD in it."
REMEMBER...
We are not guaranteed Happiness.
We must PURSUE Happiness in order to receive
it.
I expect I'll be chatting with you again soon "if the Good Lord's
willin' and the creek don't rise!" My prayer for each and
every one who may read this epistle is that God will grant you the
desires of your heart... along with a bushel and a peck of love and
laughter!
Later, ya'll,
Jeanie
