I'm hoping I've found a blog site that I like, and that
will be user friendly for readers and commenters. Anyway,
here's a launch, as we say on the Texas Coast. Remember,
this is my first time here, so it's a work in progress for
sure. Since it's my blog, guess I can plug my own stuff,
right?
I've redone my little paperback book, "Curve of the Coast," into a nifty hardback with dust jacket, on www.blurb.com. Photos and more stories, and a more chronological series of stories, depicting my journey from childhood in Kansas, through marriage and divorce, careers of executive secretary and typesetter, moving to Texas, and retirement to the Texas Coast. Click the link above for a 15-page preview and ordering information. I'd be delighted to sign your book anytime!
I'll be participating in a book-signing in ElDorado, Kansas, October 11, at the Butler County Historical Society's Kansas Oil Museum. Since I'm spending a week in Kansas visiting family, I'm getting in on the event which is primarily for my big sister, Gail Martin, and niece, Cynthia Ross, along with a couple of other El Dorado authors, Ervin E. Grant and Mary Jo Davis Grant. Gail's book is "My Flint Hills Childhood: Growing Up in 1930s Kansas," and was created on Blurb.com, like mine. Cindy's is a book of poems, "Ride a Stick Horse."
In December, I've been invited to join in the "Author's Corral" at the "26th Annual Christmas in Goliad" festival in Goliad, Texas, Friday and Saturday, December 4 and 5. The Author's Corral is only on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 or 4 p.m. I kidded them about the "Corral," complimenting them on figuring out a way to keep us authors from galloping all over the place, irreverent group that we tend to be.
Highlights of the Festival will be a lighted night parade Friday evening; and booths selling handcrafted items and food in the Square surrunding the historic Goliad County Courthouse. Entertainment includes music and dance performances, Santa arriving on a longhorn, and a dog-costume contest. It closes Saturday evening with Los Posada at the Presidio and a concert of Christmas music at the Chapel of Mission Espiritu Santo.
I look forward to seeing all of you there!
Now, let's see if this thing is gonna fly . . . .
