Fans of Sex and the City can rejoice once again. It’s official that the sequel to the first movie will be out in 2010. It’s been less than a year since the first movie of the famous comedy series Sex and the City released to a successful reception. Since then, news was rife that the stars of the TV series/movie, showed a keenness to continue with another film of the popular program. It definitely seems like they’ve had a ball during the making. Any problems with Kim Catrall (Samantha) must’ve been sorted out really well; the actress after all wasn’t willing to work in the first flick.
Despite facing quite a bit of flack for the movie, it got a stupendous opening. Carrie and her friends still seem to fascinate their fans. The box office collections from the domestic circuit counted a cool $153 million. The curiosity element was spiced up early on with speculations about Carrie tying the knot and Charlotte having a baby. Movie trailers just added to the mounting interest. The makers took a lot of pains to keep the climax under wraps by shooting multiple versions of it. Many however said it lost steam and was lukewarm in comparison to its shows on television.
The TV version hadn’t escaped from critic backlash either. Many called it crass, crude and a whole lot of not-so-complimentary adjectives. But even some had to grudgingly agree that the writing was one of Television’s best. Women lapped up the spicy sex and romantic escapades of four single women closing in on 40. Their styles and wardrobes also garnered a lot of female attention. The series went on to win 7 Emmy Awards and 8 Golden Globes. Not that surprising, because it was one of the highest-rated sitcoms since it premiered on June 6, 1998.
For people who love the witty, wacky and lively gals anyway, keep an eye on the best movie trailers that appear on the Internet and TV. You wouldn’t want to miss out on the release of Sex and the City’s next transition.
